Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced CNC Swiss Screw Machine Set-Up Operator to join our precision machining team. This position is responsible for setting up, programming, and optimizing CNC Swiss-style lathes to manufacture high-precision metal components in a fast-paced job shop environment. The ideal candidate has extensive experience performing daily machine setups, troubleshooting machining processes, and consistently producing quality parts that meet tight tolerances.
This is a hands-on role requiring the ability to work independently while maintaining production efficiency, quality standards, and on-time delivery.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC Swiss-style screw machines for precision metal components.
- Perform complete machine setups from existing programs while meeting established setup and cycle time expectations.
- Install tooling, fixtures, guide bushings, and workholding equipment for each production run.
- Edit CNC programs and adjust offsets to improve machining efficiency and optimize cycle times.
- Change tooling and make program modifications as needed during production.
- Select the proper cutting tools, inserts, fixtures, soft jaws, and workholding based on part requirements.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Inspect completed parts using precision measuring instruments to verify dimensional accuracy and quality.
- Perform first-piece and in-process inspections while maintaining responsibility for the quality of your own work.
- Troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Work in a fast-paced job shop environment with frequent setup changes and short production runs.
- Train machine operators on proper machine operation, tooling, and production procedures.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area while following all company safety procedures.
QualificationsRequired
- Minimum 5 years of experience setting up CNC Swiss screw machines.
- Experience performing complete machine setups independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to install tooling and complete setups while meeting required production standards.
- Experience editing CNC programs and adjusting tooling offsets.
- Strong understanding of precision machining and tight-tolerance manufacturing.
- Ability to use precision measuring equipment, including calipers, micrometers, indicators, and gauges.
- Experience selecting appropriate cutting tools, inserts, fixtures, and workholding.
Preferred
- Experience with Hanwha and Tsugami Swiss CNC machines.
- Experience manufacturing precision components for aerospace, medical, or other high-tolerance industries.
- Knowledge of GD&T and precision inspection techniques.
