The Philadelphia School (TPS) is seeking per-diem substitute teachers. We are a Preschool - Grade 8 progressive, independent school located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with an enrollment of approximately 420 students. Since our founding in 1972, The Philadelphia School has grown in size, complexity, and diversity. This growth has been rooted firmly in the progressive values with which our founders began: immersive learning, responsive pedagogy, and meaningful engagement with the world.
The Substitute Teacher works on a daily, as-needed basis offering teacher coverage for homeroom and special subject areas, such as Music, Art, Spanish, and Physical Education. This role could also accompany classes to our outdoor education center. The teacher must be prepared to offer developmentally appropriate learning opportunities designed by our teachers, for all students from Preschool to Grade 8.
Deliver developmentally appropriate lessons in homeroom and special subject areas—including Music, Art, Spanish, and Physical Education—based on plans prepared by the regular classroom teacher.
Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Required instead would be an equivalent combination of education and previous experience that provides required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Experienced educator who has a strong classroom management and communication skill, as well as flexible approach to teaching.
