Position Summary
The Entry Level Accounting Clerk will support the firm with day-to-day accounting, bookkeeping, data entry, client service, and administrative accounting tasks. This role is ideal for someone with basic accounting knowledge, strong organizational skills, and a desire to build a long-term foundation in public accounting.
Key Responsibilities
· Enter invoices, payments, deposits, and other financial transactions accurately.
· Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable tasks.
· Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and client account activity.
· Maintain organized financial records, receipts, invoices, and client documents.
· Prepare basic spreadsheets, reports, and schedules for review by senior staff.
· Support bookkeeping, payroll, tax preparation, and month-end close activities as assigned.
· Communicate professionally with clients, vendors, and team members regarding billing, documents, and accounting questions.
· Use cloud-based accounting and office technology to complete work efficiently.
· Protect confidential financial, client, and firm information.
· Participate in training and mentoring to continue developing accounting skills.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or coursework in accounting, finance, or business preferred.
· Basic understanding of accounting principles, including debits, credits, invoices, payments, and reconciliations.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including data entry, basic formulas, sorting, and formatting.
· Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks Online and Xero is a plus; training will be provided as needed.
· Strong attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and follow-through.
· Basic math skills and comfort working with numbers.
· Good written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on clarity and professionalism.
· Strong time-management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
· Prior office, clerical, bookkeeping, cashiering, data entry, or administrative experience preferred but not required.
· Accounting experience of approximately one year is preferred, but motivated entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply.
