Location: Madison, Wisconsin (Hybrid – 2–3 days/week in office)

Safe Communities is a nationally recognized nonprofit coalition dedicated to preventing injuries and saving lives through education, collaboration, and community action. For more than 25 years, we have partnered with healthcare systems, schools, public health agencies, law enforcement, fire and EMS, businesses, local governments, and community organizations to address Dane County's most pressing public health and safety challenges.
Our work focuses on overdose prevention, suicide prevention, falls prevention, traffic safety, and other initiatives that help create a safer, healthier community.
We're seeking a creative and organized Communications & Engagement Manager to strengthen our brand, tell our story, and increase community awareness and engagement.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications & Marketing Manager leads the organization's communications and marketing efforts. This position develops strategic messaging, manages digital communications, supports fundraising and community engagement, and ensures consistent branding across all platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Communications & Marketing
- Develop and implement an annual communications and marketing plan.
- Manage the Safe Communities brand and organizational messaging. Create compelling content for newsletters, press releases, annual reports, social media, and promotional materials.
- Promote programs, campaigns, trainings, and community events.
Digital Communications
- Manage the organization's website and recommend improvements based on analytics.
- Oversee email marketing and digital communications.
- Coordinate photography, video, and multimedia content.
Community Engagement & Development
- Support fundraising, donor communications, grant materials, and sponsorship efforts.
- Develop impact stories highlighting organizational outcomes.
- Assist with media relations and community outreach.
Project Management
- Maintain a communications calendar.
- Coordinate projects across multiple initiatives.
- Manage relationships with outside vendors and creative partners.
- Track and report communication performance metrics.
Qualifications
We're looking for someone with:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Public Health, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Professional experience in communications, marketing, or public relations.
- Outstanding writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Experience managing websites, social media, and digital communications.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Proficiency with Canva, Microsoft Office, and digital communication platforms.
- Experience with WordPress, email marketing platforms, CRM systems, photography, or graphic design is a plus.
