Cultural Specialist- Polynesian & Hispanic Heritage
Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Cultural Specialist to lead and support programs focused on Polynesian and Hispanic heritage. This role is responsible for developing and delivering engaging instruction in dance, music, art, and language, while fostering cultural appreciation and identity among students.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement culturally responsive lessons in Polynesian and Hispanic dance, music, art, and language
- Teach and model traditional and contemporary cultural practices with authenticity and respect
- Provide instruction in singing, music, and basic instrumental performance (e.g., drumming, ukulele, and similar instruments)
- Demonstrate strong lesson planning and classroom management skills to ensure effective instruction and student engagement
- Collaborate with school staff to integrate cultural learning into the broader curriculum and school events
- Support and coordinate performances, showcases, and cultural celebrations (e.g., assemblies, heritage events)
- Create a positive, inclusive learning environment that honors diverse backgrounds and experiences
- Assess student engagement and growth, adjusting instruction as needed
- Maintain communication with staff, administration, and families regarding program goals and student progress
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid teaching license (strongly preferred)
- Experience teaching or working with Polynesian and/or Hispanic cultural programs
- Demonstrated expertise in dance, music, art, and/or language instruction
- Experience teaching singing and music, including basic instrumental instruction (e.g., drumming, ukulele)
- Strong classroom management and instructional planning skills
- Ability to build meaningful relationships with students and community members
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
Minimum Qualifications
- Relevant experience in cultural education, performing arts, or community-based cultural programs
- Knowledge of lesson planning and classroom management practices
- Ability to teach singing and music; experience with instruments such as drums and ukulele preferred
- Deep knowledge and respect for Polynesian and Hispanic cultures and traditions
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Commitment to student growth and cultural empowerment
Work Schedule
- Monday through Friday
- Standard school-day hours
- Occasional evenings and weekends required for performances, rehearsals, and school events
