The Yardmaster platform is a $60m revenue commercial landscaping platform backed by principles-based private equity firm, Unity. Unity Partners, formed the Yardmaster platform in November 2025, bringing together Yardmaster, Big Lakes Lawncare, Good Guys Lawn and Landscape, and Kunco Landscape. The business is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, with two additional branch offices in each of Columbus and Erie, PA, one each in Cleveland, Macomb, MI, and Ann Arbor, MI, as well as an accounting office in Painesville, OH. The business is well capitalized and focused on delivering significant growth through M&A and organic growth.
We are planning to complete 4-6 acquisitions annually for the next 2-3 years with additional growth planned beyond that. Our acquisition strategy is currently focused on the states in which we do business and adjacent states if the right opportunities arise.
Position Summary
As part of this aggressive growth plan, Yardmaster is looking to hire a Director of Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A). This role will initially be focused on execution of the M&A due diligence process from LOI through to close. As the role evolves, origination will become a more important part of the role and this individual would play a key part in supporting the integration process, particularly from a finance perspective. This senior role works collaboratively across departments internally and is the key liaison with the Board of Directors and external diligence partners on the execution of M&A transactions.
Core Responsibilities
Transaction Execution & Due Diligence
- Due Diligence Oversight: Coordinate cross-functional teams (Legal, Finance, HR, Insurance, IT, Tax, Operations) to uncover and mitigate risks during thorough due diligence phases.
- Deal Structuring: Determine the optimal asset/stock purchase structures to mitigate risk and maximize tax efficiencies.
- Contract Negotiation: Lead negotiations for commercial terms, Letters of Intent (LOIs), and definitive Membership Interest or Stock Purchase Agreements (MIPAs/SPAs).
- Integration: Support the integration team with design of integration plans with a particular focus on the finance elements
- Investor Relations: Draft Investment Committee memos in conjunction with Unity Partners to support the sign off of M&A deals
Deal Sourcing & Strategy
- Pipeline Management: Research market trends, identify potential corporate targets, and manage the company’s corporate development pipeline, potentially in conjunction with a thirdparty partner.
- Strategic Alignment: Partner with executive leadership to ensure potential targets match the long-term corporate growth strategy.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain active partnerships with investment banks, brokers, private equity sponsors, and industry executives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required and MBA or other advanced degree in business, accounting, finance, economics, or liberal arts preferred
- Minimum 7 years’ professional experience required, including at least 5 years’ experience in corporate development, investment banking, private equity/venture capital, or management consulting preferred
- Demonstrated experience leading M&A deal sourcing, negotiation, and execution with target companies that are generally less than $3 million of EBITDA and are family or individually owned
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while working collaboratively internally and externally
- Strong oral, written communication, and presentation development skills
- Demonstrated experience presenting to and working directly with senior executives and a Board of Directors
- Strong personal initiative and comfort with ambiguity and a fast-paced environment
