Position Summary: Under general supervision, to estimate, collect and account for disposal fees at landfill and transfer stations; to safeguard and account for receipts; to perform cashiering functions in conformance with the Western Placer Waste Management Authority or Placer County cash management guidelines; to direct traffic to appropriate waste disposal locations; to issue warnings and enforce ordinances and regulations of the Authority; to inspect disposal loads for hazardous materials and to perform related duties as required.
Classification: Full-time/Non-Exempt
Compensation Range: $26.47-$33.06 Per/Hour
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Attend cashier’s booth or station, public receiving area or transfer station for the handling, diversion, and disposal for waste materials during assigned shift.
· Verify the eligibility of residents of the County to use the disposal sites of the Authority through Identification card, tax bill, or home address.
· Determine refuse charges for vehicles either by weighing or volume.
· Collect gate fees and make change; daily reconcile the cash drawer against receipts.
· Prepares deposits for the days receipts; makes trips to the bank(s) for the deposit or change.
· Prepare deposit for bank courier; coordinate bank deposits with the County Treasurer’s Office.
· Provide weight tags for commercial vehicles.
· Direct customers to proper disposal sites and monitor combined loads to ensure correct placement.
· Record license plates of vehicles that place wastes incorrectly and issue warnings.
· Issue warning for uncovered loads and record the license number.
· Generate lists of violators on a regular basis.
· Check loads for possible hazardous waste.
· Distribute information on recycling, disposal and handling of hazardous material and waste oil collection and proper load coverings techniques.
· Open and close entrance gate.
· Disarm security system.
· Read and register security statistics.
· Activate and be responsible for security system.
· Maintain gate buildings and surrounding roads.
· Police blowing litter around and within disposal site.
· Run errands associated with disposal site activities including obtaining hardware items and other miscellaneous supplies.
· Deliver receipts, pay sheets, cash, and other records to appropriate receiver.
Required Experience: Two years of responsible work experience in performing teller or cashier activities. A working background or training in entrance gate or retail store operations.
Training: High School diploma or GED. Additional course work in math, accounting, computer science and/or supervision is desirable.
Required License or Certificate:
Due to the nature of the work, medical clearance is required. Additionally, due to driving of company and/or personal vehicles to perform duties, a valid California driver's license is required in addition to proof of adequate vehicle insurance.
Knowledge of:
· Microcomputers used in office and other business operations.
· Cash and receipt handling techniques, methods, and practices.
· Safe work practices.
Physical Demands:
· Work weekends, holidays, and other irregular work schedules.
· Stand on feet for long periods of time in varying weather conditions.
· Lift up to fifty pounds and carry up to twenty-five pounds.
· Bend and stoop.
