Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join our litigation team focused on civil litigation. The successful candidate will handle a diverse caseload, develop defense strategies, draft pleadings and motions, manage discovery, and represent clients at hearings and trials under the supervision of senior attorneys. This role requires strong litigation skills, sound judgment, and the ability to communicate clearly with clients, opposing counsel, and courts.
HYBRID: Work 2 days a week from home.
Key Responsibilities

Manage an active caseload of civil litigation and insurance defense matters from intake through resolution, including trial when necessary.

Conduct legal research and draft high-quality pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests/responses, and settlement documents.

Prepare for and participate in depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials; take and defend depositions as needed.

Counsel and communicate regularly with clients, claims adjusters, and third-party vendors to develop defense strategies and keep stakeholders informed of case status.

Analyze insurance policies and coverage issues, coordinate with coverage counsel when appropriate, and handle general liability claims.

Collaborate with partners, senior associates, paralegals, and support staff to manage files, meet deadlines, and deliver efficient client service.

Manage case budgets and billing, track time accurately, and assist with litigation cost control.

Utilize case management and e-discovery tools to organize documents, produce discovery, and comply with discovery obligations.

Identify opportunities for early resolution, negotiate settlements, and prepare settlement agreements and releases.

Maintain professional development through continuing legal education and stay current on relevant legal and regulatory developments.
Qualifications
-
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the state bar.

2+ years of civil litigation experience

Proven experience drafting pleadings, motions, discovery, and settlement documents; courtroom and deposition experience a plus.

Strong legal research and writing skills and the ability to analyze complex factual and legal issues.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines, prioritize tasks, and work independently and within a team.
