Position Summary:
Baker, Cupcake and Cake decorators work on a day-to-day basis to ensure product quality and consistency in order to meet the needs of every guest. General duties include scooping, baking, decorating, and handling customer orders. Additional duties include inventory management, quality control, and maintaining kitchen & storeroom organization.
Qualifications:
- Must have a pastry degree, certificate, and/or at least 1 years of pastry experience in a professional kitchen, including cakes and cake, decorating
- Must possess strong customer service skills, a positive attitude, a friendly and upbeat personality, and a love of cupcakes!
- Must be familiar with curds, buttercreams, piping skills, and cakes
- Must be able to show proof of ServSafe certification upon hire
- Must be available to work weekday and weekend shifts
- Weekdays and Weekends a must
- Must be willing to close and support retail as needed.
- 6m AM shifts and afternoon to close shifts required.
- Must be able to interact with Guests, take orders and fullfill orders
- Must be able to speak, read and write in English

- Able to communicate clearly with managers, kitchen staff, retail personnel, and customers
- Able to take direction, perform closing and opening shift duties, and multi-task; including but not limited to managing daily orders and deliveries, re-stocking and serving customers in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to work independently in the absence of management
- Direct and coordinate duties for the phone order team, take Guest phone orders
- Responsive and attentive to incoming communication throughout the day
- Understand and respond to situations with an appropriate sense of urgency and good judgment. Maintains bakery standards to meet guest needs.
- Oversee and support the store manager/regional area manager including organization, store cleanliness, implementation of policy and procedure, maintaining current display case, working with and directing fellow bakers.
- Support Assistant/ Kitchen Manager with the training of existing and new bakers to ensure quality, raise product standards, and build a collective knowledge base.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Must clean and sanitize in accordance with KCI Inc. policy
- Baker checks production schedule for daily needs.
- Bakes and decorates cupcakes, cookies and cakes fresh throughout the day in a timely manner in accordance with store needs.
- Follows all of Kara’s Cupcakes Standards of Operational Excellence to ensure product quality and a great Guest experience.
- Keeps decorating area clean and clear of debris. Follows proper Bakery safety, and security procedures and standards.
- Follows Standard Sanitation Procedures and maintains a current California Food Handlers certification
- Assists with other bakery duties as needed. Provides prompt and courteous Guest service to our Guests, employees, and suppliers.

The physical demands of the position include:
- Visual and auditory ability to observe and to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.
- Must be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
- Able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must have the stamina to work 40 hours per week minimum.
