Join our dynamic perioperative team as a Cross-Trained Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Pre-Operative (Pre-Op), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and Operating Room (OR) Circulating roles. Responsibilities
1. Pre-Operative (Pre-Op)
- Complete thorough preoperative nursing assessments, verify informed surgical consents, and review medical history/medications.
- Establish intravenous (IV) access, administer preoperative medications, and review ordered lab work or diagnostics.
- Provide detailed education to patients and their families regarding the planned surgical journey and immediate postoperative care.
2. Operating Room (OR) Circulator
- Serve as the patient advocate in the operating suite, managing the nursing care and maintaining a sterile, safe environment.
- Coordinate the surgical team, verify the surgical site/patient via "Time-Out" protocols, and accurately document all intraoperative data.
- Prepare, organize, and track all surgical equipment, implants, and specimens, ensuring seamless collaboration with the scrub technician and surgeon.
3. Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
- Provide safe, targeted nursing care to patients dynamically recovering from general, regional, or local anesthesia.
- Continuously monitor and record vital signs, neurological status, airway management, and post-op surgical sites.
- Actively manage pain, nausea, and emergency interventions during vulnerable postoperative windows.
- Execute precise discharge planning and education for a safe transition home or to an inpatient floor.
Experience
- Proven nursing experience in perioperative settings such as hospital operating rooms, ambulatory surgery centers, or outpatient clinics.
- Critical care experience in ICU or emergency medicine environments is highly valued.
- Familiarity with a broad range of medical procedures including cardiac catheterization, dialysis access management, and trauma medicine.
- Hands-on experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for documentation and order entry.
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques, infection control protocols, and sterile processing practices essential for maintaining a safe surgical environment.
- Prior exposure to specialties like ophthalmology, geriatrics, pediatrics, or behavioral health enhances adaptability across diverse patient populations.
- Ability to perform complex assessments including vital signs monitoring, laboratory specimen collection/processing, and diagnostic evaluations like sonography or gastric lavage.
