Job Summary
The Pool Café Bartender role prepares and serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages while providing exceptional members and guest service in a fast-paced outdoor pool environment. Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized bar area while ensuring compliance with all club policies, food safety standards, and alcohol service regulations
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Inspect and prepare the Pool Café bar prior to opening each day
- Stock beer, wine, liquor, mixers, garnishes, cups, ice, and supplies
- Prepare fruits, garnishes, and beverage mixes
- Follow all opening, operating, and closing procedures
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate supply needs to management
- Greet members and guests in a friendly, professional, and welcoming manner
- Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to club recipes and standards
- Take beverage orders and process transactions accurately
- Provide beverage service to members seated at nearby pool and café areas when necessary
- Answer questions regarding beverage selections and menu offerings
- Thank members and guests and encourage future visits
- Consistently comply with all local, state, and federal alcohol service laws and club policies
- Verify identification and age requirements when necessary
- Monitor alcohol consumption and responsibly slow or refuse service when appropriate
- Immediately notify management of any concerns regarding member or guest behavior
- Maintain a safe, clean, and hazard-free work environment
- Ensure all food and beverage products are properly stored, labeled, dated, and rotated
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bar, storage, and surrounding Pool Café areas
- Wash and sanitize bar equipment and utensils
- Complete all assigned side work and closing duties
- Secure and lock bar areas according to established procedures
- Attend staff meetings, pre-shift meetings, and required training sessions
- Support Pool Café operations during peak periods and club events
- Supports all Food & Beverage operations by cross-functioning as both a bartender and server, ensuring service standards are maintained and members receive prompt, courteous, and professional service regardless of assigned station.
- Assist fellow team members as needed to ensure exceptional member experiences
- Maintains a professional appearance and adheres to club standards and policies
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- One (1) year of bartending experience required; experience in a pool, resort, country club, or high-volume hospitality environment preferred
- Previous customer service experience required
- Experience working in an outdoor, seasonal, or family-oriented environment preferred
- Alcohol Beverage Certification required or must be obtained within designated timeframe
- Food Safety Certification preferred or required per club policy
- Must meet all legal age requirements to prepare and serve alcoholic beverages per North Carolina law
Critical Skills
- Strong knowledge of standard cocktail preparation, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages
- Ability to serve alcohol and confidently slow or refuse service when necessary
- Exceptional member and guest service skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
- Basic knowledge of POS systems preferred
- Knowledge of club operations, pool hours, special events, and member activities
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to maintain professionalism in a busy outdoor environment
- Knowledge of and ability to perform assigned responsibilities during emergency situations
Schedule Requirements
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events during the pool season
Training
- This role includes hands-on shadowing to ensure success and skill development

Physical Demands
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8 hours)
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, and sun exposure
- Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 30 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds
- Ability to bend, reach, stoop, twist, and perform repetitive motions
- Must maintain a professional appearance consistent with club standards
