Company Overview
A leading precision manufacturing organization specializing in high-volume engineered components is seeking a skilled Tool Room Technician to support production operations within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is critical in maintaining tooling readiness, minimizing downtime, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across production equipment and tooling systems.
Position Overview
The Tool Room Technician will be responsible for building, repairing, maintaining, and supporting tooling used throughout manufacturing operations. This individual will work closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to ensure tooling performance, machine uptime, and operational efficiency remain at optimal levels.
The ideal candidate will possess strong machining and troubleshooting abilities, experience operating tool room equipment, and a proactive mindset focused on improving tooling reliability and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
Key Responsibilities
- Operate tool room equipment including lathes, CNC mills, grinders, presses, and various hand tools to build, repair, and finish tooling components
- Repair, maintain, and prepare tooling to support production uptime and minimize machine downtime
- Assemble and certify dies and tooling assemblies for production use
- Provide tooling support for machine setups and operator stations across multiple shifts
- Re-profile and modify tooling to improve production output and tooling life
- Troubleshoot tooling-related production issues directly on the manufacturing floor
- Maintain accurate tooling inventory, organization, and labeling systems
- Receive and inspect incoming tooling against purchase orders and engineering specifications
- Partner with Quality to ensure tooling meets print and specification requirements
- Work closely with engineering and production teams to identify tooling improvements and process optimization opportunities
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on increasing machine availability and reducing tooling-related downtime
- Assist in developing and improving work instructions and tooling procedures
- Promote and support company quality standards, safety initiatives, and operational objectives
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of manufacturing operations
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Journeyman Tool & Die certification or equivalent experience preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in tool and die, machining, or tool room operations
- Experience within fastener manufacturing, automotive manufacturing, or high-volume production environments strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of blueprint, print, and specification interpretation
- Experience operating manual and CNC machining equipment
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
- Welding and fabrication experience preferred
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with production and engineering teams
- Continuous improvement and process optimization mindset
Preferred Experience
- Fastener manufacturing experience
- Tool grinding and re-profiling
- Die assembly and certification
- Preventive maintenance on tooling systems
- Manufacturing floor tooling support
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb stairs throughout the shift
- Ability to regularly use hands and arms for tooling and machine operation
- Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work within a manufacturing environment requiring eye and hearing protection
Work Environment
This position operates within a manufacturing and tool room environment with moderate to occasionally high noise levels. Proper PPE including eye and hearing protection is required while on the production floor. Safety-toed footwear is strongly recommended.
