Pediatric Dental Assistant
Our Park Slope pediatric dental office is looking for a friendly, compassionate, and dependable Dental Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children, helps create a positive and welcoming experience for patients and families, and supports our providers in delivering exceptional care.
As a Pediatric Dental Assistant, you'll play an important role in making children feel comfortable during their visits while assisting the dentist with clinical procedures and helping the office run efficiently. We are looking for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, and committed to providing outstanding patient care.
Responsibilities
- Welcome patients and families with a warm, friendly attitude.
- Help children feel comfortable before, during, and after treatment.
- Prepare treatment rooms and patients for exams and procedures.
- Assist the dentist using four-handed dentistry during restorative and preventive procedures.
- Take digital X-rays in accordance with state regulations.
- Perform iTero scans when needed.
- Clean, sterilize, and maintain dental instruments and equipment following infection control protocols.
- Set up and break down operatories between patients.
- Provide oral hygiene and post-operative instructions to patients and parents.
- Maintain accurate patient records and chart clinical notes as directed.
- Assist with laboratory tasks as needed.
- Help manage inventory and ensure treatment rooms remain clean and fully stocked.
- Support the front desk with scheduling follow-up appointments when needed.
- Work collaboratively with the clinical team to provide an exceptional patient experience.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Dental Assistant is preferred.
- Experience working with pediatric patients is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of dental instruments, infection control, and sterilization procedures.
- Current X-ray certification (or ability to obtain, as required by state law).
- Understanding of OSHA and HIPAA regulations.
- Experience with digital dental software and electronic health records.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially when working with children and parents.
- Positive attitude, patience, and ability to remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Reliable, punctual, and a team player.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduation from an accredited Dental Assisting program is preferred.
- Additional certifications (such as EFDA) are a plus.
