Hill Family Pet Care is looking for an organized, motivated, and detail-oriented Shift Manager to join our growing leadership team. This is an administrative and operations-focused management position with the opportunity to transition into a full-time salaried leadership role upon successful completion of training and performance milestones.
As we prepare to move into our brand-new flagship location in 2027, you'll become one of four managers responsible for helping lead one of Chicago's premier luxury pet care facilities. This is not simply a supervisory role—it is a leadership position focused on operations, organization, customer experience, and team development.
Position Overview
The Shift Manager is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day operation of Hill Family Pet Care runs efficiently while delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining the highest standards of care for every pet.
This role is heavily focused on administration, organization, problem-solving, leadership, communication, and supporting all departments of the business. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys multitasking, and is passionate about building strong teams and outstanding client experiences.
ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Management
- Lead, coach, and motivate team members throughout each shift.
- Ensure company policies and procedures are consistently followed.
- Provide guidance and support to staff while maintaining a positive culture.
- Hold employees accountable for performance expectations.
- Assist with onboarding and training new employees.
- Delegate responsibilities effectively.
- Resolve staff concerns professionally.
- Lead by example through professionalism and work ethic.
- Help develop future leaders within the company.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Manage daily operational reports and documentation.
- Ensure accurate client notes are entered into our software.
- Review reservations, daycare attendance, boarding schedules, and grooming appointments.
- Maintain organization of company documents and administrative systems.
- Assist with scheduling and shift coverage.
- Monitor payroll accuracy, PTO requests, and employee attendance.
- Communicate important updates with ownership and fellow managers.
- Ensure daily opening and closing checklists are completed.
- Maintain inventory counts and place supply requests.
- Assist in implementing new systems and operational improvements.
Front Desk & Client Experience
- Deliver exceptional customer service during every interaction.
- Build lasting relationships with clients.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and efficiently.
- Maintain a welcoming and organized front lobby.
- Ensure all reservations, memberships, services, and invoices are accurate.
- Answer phones, emails, and client inquiries promptly.
- Educate clients on our services and memberships.
Sales & Business Growth
- Confidently sell daycare memberships, boarding, grooming, transportation, and retail products.
- Meet and exceed sales expectations.
- Identify opportunities to increase revenue through exceptional customer service.
- Assist with promotions, events, and client retention.
- Help maintain strong occupancy and membership growth.
Operations
- Ensure daycare operations run safely and efficiently.
- Coordinate communication between daycare, boarding, grooming, transportation, and front desk teams.
- Assist with staffing assignments throughout the day.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization throughout the facility.
- Monitor safety standards for pets, staff, and guests.
- Address operational issues quickly and effectively.
- Support emergency situations with confidence and professionalism.
Problem Solving
- Make sound operational decisions independently.
- Anticipate issues before they become larger problems.
- Develop solutions that improve efficiency.
- Remain calm under pressure during busy periods.
- Communicate effectively with fellow managers and ownership.
Qualifications
- Previous management or leadership experience preferred.
- Administrative and operations experience strongly preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong computer skills and ability to learn multiple software systems.
- Sales and customer service experience required.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Passion for pets and delivering exceptional care.
- Professional appearance and positive attitude.
- Reliable transportation and flexible availability, including weekends and holidays as needed.
Preferred Experience
- Pet care, veterinary, boarding, daycare, or grooming industry experience.
- Hospitality, retail, or service management.
- Scheduling and workforce management.
- Team leadership and coaching.
- Customer relationship management.
- Administrative office management.
