Job Description
A production technical consultant acts as a liaison amongst the various individuals involved in a theater production, including the various directors, and the technical department, ensures that all technical elements of the performance run smoothly, and directs maintenance and organization of all equipment.
Essential Duties Include:
Provides training for tech crew (sound, lights and stage management)
Assists director in creating a map of the performance (Cue sheet)
Designs technical stage plot - Oversees the technical organization and design of the stage prior to performances.
Assists directors in overseeing technical run-throughs either directly or virtually prior to a performance.
Instructs lighting and technical support team on the timing and execution of aesthetic or special effects pertaining to sound and lighting.
Is available to assist in addressing and resolving any technical difficulties during rehearsals and performances.
Reports logistical problems to the director or producer.
Designs storage plan and maintains inventory for equipment
Instructs tech crew on stage equipment maintenance, storage, and organization

Required Knowledge of Skills
Demonstrates familiarity with the logistics of a theatrical production.
Is familiar with the basic function of sound, lighting and technical details.
Working knowledge of how to use, maintain and repair sound and lighting equipment
Demonstrates specific knowledge of the script and stage directions for the production.
Is willing and able to work long hours and nontraditional shifts, during the school day and evenings/weekends.
Works well with a team.
Demonstrates a sense of being well organized
Communicates clearly and effectively.
Manages time efficiently.
Demonstrates ability to do many tasks quickly and efficiently.
Possesses physical stamina required to remain standing, walking, and moving for long periods of time.
Exhibits knowledge of proper production safety procedures.
Education/Experience
A production tech consultant holds a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience (4 years) in Stage Production or Theater Management, Stage Tech, Front of House or a related field. Some tech consultants may also hold Master’s Degrees. Tech consultants who work for professional theater companies or who are hired full time by high schools and universities typically have at least a year of experience in stage management.
