Job Details
The Wastewater Engineer I is a full-time, entry-level position that provides professional engineering and technical support to the District Engineer in planning, review, coordination, and inspection of development projects. Responsibilities include development review, construction administration, GIS and engineering data management, project coordination, engineering analysis, and technical support to ensure compliance with District standards and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities Include
- Coordinates the development review process by scheduling, assigning, tracking, and balancing review activities among engineering and finance staff to ensure timely completion of development reviews.
- Performs development review and coordinates timely follow-up with District staff, developers, contractors, and consultants to facilitate project progress.
- Coordinates development projects including scheduling and budgeting projects through multiple phases under supervision of the District Engineer, providing regular updates on project status and tap utilization.
- Coordinates communication with developers, developer engineers, contractors, consultants and district customers concerning development projects including resolving inquiries, scheduling meetings, acquiring record drawing information, documenting field changes, creating change order requests, and tracking projects.
- Reviews shop drawings and submittals from contractors; redlines and comments on drawings using engineering knowledge, and responds to design changes.
- Ensures development projects comply with District policies, engineering standards, specifications, and approved construction plans.
- Evaluates contractor performance, performs construction inspections, and documents project progress to verify compliance with project requirements, schedules, and quality standards.
- Maintains the District's GIS software, mapping systems, and engineering databases, including collection system manhole data, and coordinates the preparation of maps and exhibits for District departments.
- Collects, maintains, and manages GIS data for the District's collection system, treatment plant, pretreatment program, planning activities, and other engineering applications.
- Performs recordkeeping for the engineering department including maintaining development files and official development records according to public record keeping guidelines and District standards.
- Assists the District Engineer in planning, reviewing, monitoring and inspecting capital projects.
- Assists the District Engineer with engineering studies and special projects by conducting research, analyzing technical issues, compiling data, and preparing reports.
- Interprets and applies District rules, regulations, policies, standards and applicable engineering codes.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, or equivalent field of study obtained from an ABET accredited program.
- 0-3 years’ experience in a related position
- Requires knowledge of basic sewer infrastructure design and construction and knowledge of wastewater collection systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Computer skills in MS Word, Excel and GIS software.
- Must maintain a good motor vehicle driving record and a current Colorado driver’s license.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
- Ability to interact with all levels of the District, third parties, and members of the public.
- Strong organizational and attention to detail skills.
- Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems such as inspection, directing, planning, coordinating, and controlling.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to problem resolution.
- Occasional visits to treatment facilities or field sites for observational purposes, which may involve walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs, or standing for extended periods.
- Must be able to work safely in proximity to operational areas while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.

- The annual salary range for this position is $73,000 to $94,900, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
