Join our team as a Dentist Assistant at the Orlando VA Medical Center located in Orlando, FL. This is a contract assignment with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Also expected to occasionally provide coverage at surrounding VA outpatient clinics: Lake Baldwin, Viera, and Daytona Beach.
Duties include:
· Assist the dentist in many aspects of direct patient care and perform other clinical and clerical functions independently of direct supervision.
· Customer Service
o Show courtesy, respect, and a positive attitude toward patients, co-workers, and the public.
o Assist customers with questions or concerns and provide service recovery.
· Chairside Assisting
o Set up operatory and/or surgery suite for planned dental procedures and clean dental unit for timely turnover.
o Keep operative field clear of debris
o Utilize standard infection control protocols
o Assist in specialized dental procedures including maxillofacial surgery, endodontics, and surgical periodontics.
· Dental Imaging
o Characterize images by diagnostic quality, accurately oriented and exposed; utilize dental imaging safety techniques and minimize retakes.
· Implement infection control and equipment sterilization
· Clerical functions
o Assist patients in scheduling appointments
o Finding charts and treatment plans in patient records
o Other tasks as assigned by Chief of Dental Services
· Monitor patient safety and implement safety protocols
· Pour impressions and prepare study models; make final denture impression trays and prepare bite rims; perform other dental laboratory functions as time and skill levels allow.
· Remove sutures and periodontal surgical dressing; cast impressions for diagnostic casts and preliminary impressions for prosthetic fabrication; remove crown/bridge and clean tooth preparation of debris; recement and fabricate temporary crowns; coronal polishing of teeth; place rubber dams and matrix bands; provide post-operative and other appropriate patient education.
· Provide coverage at area VA outpatient clinics as needed.
Schedule: Full-time, 8A-4:30P Mon-Fri. Call rotation required evenings, weekends, and federal holidays.
Period of Performance: 1-year based period (9/28/2026-9/27/2027) w/ four additional 1-year renewal options for a possible total of up to 5 years through 9/27/2031.
Qualifications:
- Education. Completion of a 1-year dental assistant program accredited by the American Dental Association’s Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
- Certification/License. Must possess Dental Radiologic Certificate, BLS, and CPR.
- Experience. Minimum 1 year of dental assistant experience required.
- Able to pass a drug screen and background check.
- Subject to background/security investigation.
- Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- Willingness to comply with Department of Veterans Affairs vaccination programs for seasonal influenza and COVID-19.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
