Job Summary
Why this role
This is not a maintenance job. As a Controls & Instrumentation Technician at Prime Controls, you will be embedded in complex systems integration projects from the ground up — troubleshooting, commissioning, programming, and solving problems that actually matter. You will work alongside engineers on large-scale industrial automation systems, travel to customer sites, and build the kind of hands-on experience that accelerates a career. If you want to do real work on real systems with a team that takes quality seriously, this is the role.
What you'll own
- Troubleshoot, calibrate, install, test, and commission instrumentation and automation systems on large industrial processes.
- Diagnose and repair instrumentation — from I/O operation and calibration to defective drives, motors, and electronic components.
- Set up new instrumentation using schematics and drawings, calibrating to spec from day one.
- Work directly with engineers to test and commission PLC systems, troubleshoot logic issues, and validate installed equipment during start-up.
- Program and navigate PLCs and HMIs, including communications drivers, connections, and controlled logic manipulation.
- Identify and source parts and components for PLC, network, computer, and software systems on integration projects.
- Develop and assemble project documentation and user manuals throughout the development process.
What you bring
- 4 years in contorls and instrumentation
- Proven experience in industrial electrician work with a solid understanding of electrical circuits, schematics, and control wiring
- Hands-on experience with hydraulics, sensors, calibration techniques, and precision measuring instruments
- Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), AutoCAD, Calypso platform, CNC machinery, and vision inspection systems
- Strong mechanical knowledge related to industrial maintenance; capable of troubleshooting mechanical components in conjunction with electrical systems
- Knowledge of high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) electrical safety standards; experience working with high-voltage equipment preferred
- Experience in field service roles supporting manufacturing environments or industrial plants
- Ability to read technical schematics accurately; experience with AutoCAD is advantageous
- Excellent problem-solving skills combined with customer service orientation to support client needs effectively
- Military background or certifications are a plus; candidates should demonstrate adaptability in dynamic environments
Join us to be part of a forward-thinking team committed to excellence in industrial automation! Your expertise will help drive innovation while ensuring safety, efficiency, and reliability across our clients’ operations.
