Overview
Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) Registered Nurses (RNs) work closely with doctors and heart specialists to control patients’ blood pressure and to prevent heart failure. The CVICU RN provides education and support to families and patients while acting as a liaison between the doctors and the patients. CVICU RN job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assess a patient’s condition and implement care plan while observing and recording patients’ vital signs
- Administer medication and operate cardiovascular equipment like oxygenation machines and balloon pumps
- Respond to life-threatening situations
Requirements
- Valid RN license in the state of practice, or a valid temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for the current state of practice.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months, or equivalent experience in an acute care environment.
- Minimum 1 years RN experience in CVICU
- Experience working in the specified specialty area (CVICU) preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree (preferably in nursing or related field).
- Professional certification in specialty nursing or related area.
- Additional related education and/or experience relevant to the CVICU nursing role.
- Experience in research activities within clinical practice (optional/advantageous).
