The Chassis Pre-Delivery Inspector (PDI) is responsible for inspecting and documenting truck chassis before they are released from the DFI yard and delivered to Emerald Transportation Solutions for production. This position ensures each chassis is properly identified, operational, free from undocumented damage, and ready to enter the production process.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform visual pre-delivery inspections on all chassis prior to release to Emerald.
- Verify VINs against applicable chassis and production records.
- Inspect the cab, body, glass, mirrors, lights, tires, wheels, frame, fuel/DEF tanks, and other visible components for damage or defects.
- Start chassis and check for dashboard warning lights, fault indicators, leaks, or obvious operational concerns.
- Verify basic functions including lights, turn signals, hazards, and horn.
- Record chassis mileage and other required information.
- Identify and photograph scratches, dents, cracks, missing components, or other pre-existing damage.
- Ensure inspection photos and documentation are associated with the correct VIN.
- Confirm required keys and accompanying chassis components are present.
- Assign chassis a PASS – Released to Production or HOLD – Review/Correction Required status.
- Immediately communicate damaged, unsafe, or questionable chassis to the appropriate Emerald personnel.
- Maintain accurate PDI records and assist with tracking recurring chassis damage or quality issues.
- Follow all Emerald and DFI yard safety procedures while performing inspections.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Automotive, commercial vehicle, quality inspection, receiving, inventory, or manufacturing experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle/chassis components preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify visible vehicle damage.
- Ability to accurately verify VINs and maintain inspection records.
- Basic computer, tablet, and smartphone skills.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to work independently in an outdoor yard environment.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to walk throughout the chassis yard, repeatedly enter and exit truck cabs, bend, stoop, kneel, and inspect vehicle components. Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and safely work around moving vehicles and equipment.
