Part-Time Respite Care Director

Position Overview
The Respite Care Director at HFUMC leads our respite ministry for senior adults living
with dementia, stroke, and Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative diagnosis. In this
part-time role (averaging 20 hours per week), the Director ensures participants enjoy
dignified, engaging, and therapeutic activities while providing support and resources to
caregivers. Responsibilities include overseeing programming, managing volunteers,
securing warm meals, handling administrative tasks, and maintaining budget oversight.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Activity Management
- Develop and implement weekly and daily programming that incorporates physical and cognitive exercise, music, arts, crafts, games etc.
- Lead activities and supervise volunteers during sessions.
- Adapt activities to meet the physical and cognitive abilities of participants.
- Research and coordinate special guests or entertainment (musicians, speakers, therapy animals, art instructors, etc.)
- Communicate with caregivers and their families.
- Provide, oversee and support a caregiver support group.
Volunteer Recruitment & Training
- Recruit, interview, and onboard volunteers trained in dementia and senior care and complete background screenings.
- Assign volunteer roles (companions, activity leaders, art assistants, etc.) expectations, and provide ongoing support and training.
Administrative & Financial Oversight
- Create and manage the respite program budget, including approving purchases and submitting receipts.
- Handle administrative tasks including participant registration, record keeping, billing, and documentation of activities and attendance. File and coordinate insurance coverage and maintain compliance records with the church.
- Evaluate weekly programming and adjust based on participant and caregiver feedback.
- Ensure compliance with state and local regulations.
Engagement & Outreach
- Build relationships with caregivers, participants, and the local community.
- Develop marketing materials, social media content, and church communications to promote the program
- Represent the respite ministry at community and speaking engagements.
Collaboration & Reporting
- Coordinate with staff to ensure smooth program operation.
- Stay current on best practices in dementia care, senior adult engagement, and dance/movement therapy.
- Report directly to executive leadership regarding program outcomes, volunteer management, and participant satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Experience in senior care, dementia care, or therapeutic programming preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Comfortable and effective supervising volunteers and facilitating group activities.
- Ability to manage budgets, insurance filings, and administrative tasks.
- Knowledge of arts, movement, and cognitive engagement strategies is a plus.
Pay: $25.00 per hour
