Job Overview
The Early Childhood Mentor plays a crucial role in fostering the development of teaching staff working in the education of young children. This position involves training staff on methods of creating and implementing engaging curricula tailored to the needs of children in various early childhood settings in the Head Start classroom. The Mentor will work closely with teachers, children, families, and other content areas to promote a nurturing environment that supports childhood development and learning.
Entry level Associate Degree with enrollment towards Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
Duties Model an train teaching staff to develop the following skills:
- Implement age-appropriate curricula that align with educational standards.
- Provide individualized instruction and support for children with special needs through early intervention strategies.
- Foster literacy education by integrating reading and writing activities into daily lessons.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively to create a positive learning environment.
- Conduct assessments to monitor student progress and adapt teaching methods accordingly.
- Collaborate with parents and caregivers to support child welfare and development at home.
- Plan and execute engaging lesson plans that cover various subjects, including math and physical education.
- Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Utilize effective communication skills to interact with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in early childhood education.
Skills
- Strong background in curriculum development and lesson planning tailored for early childhood education. Also foster the ability to guide and model for adult learners.
- Experience working directly with children in various settings such as daycare, preschool, or private schools.
- Knowledge of special education practices and early intervention techniques.
- Proficiency in behavior management strategies to support diverse learners.
- Understanding of childhood development principles to foster holistic growth in young children.
- Classroom management skills that promote an engaging learning atmosphere.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with families and educational staff.
- Familiarity with standardized testing procedures relevant to early childhood education.
- Experience in tutoring or teaching physical education for young learners.
