Job Summary:
The EHS Coordinator ensures workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and environmental health by implementing and maintaining safety, health, and environmental programs across both manufacturing facilities. This role assists in hazard identification, regulatory compliance, employee safety training, and fostering a culture of people-first safety and continuous improvement. Manage personal protective equipment (PPE), promote compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and help maintain a safe, clean, and compliant manufacturing environment.
Job Responsibilities:
Safety, Risk Assessment & Compliance
- Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and safety audits to identify and mitigate workplace hazards while ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and applicable local regulations.
- Investigate workplace incidents, determine root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions using data analytics.
- Conduct routine walkthroughs of production areas to understand how work is performed, identify practical improvement opportunities, and help reduce exposure to hazards such as, wet-environment and high-pressure washdown exposure, sanitation chemical handling, machine guarding on processing and packaging lines, and ergonomic/repetitive-motion risk.
- Communicate daily with production and other teams to reinforce safe decision making and encourage reporting of concerns and ensure employees feel comfortable sharing ideas and challenges
- Maintain workplace conditions that support food safety by mitigating cross-contamination, allergen risks, and sanitation hazards while reinforcing a strong people-first safety mindset.
- Collaborate with HR and Workers' Compensation teams on claims management and return-to-work programs.
- Manage inventory levels, ordering, distribution, and replacement of personal protective equipment (PPE) across both manufacturing facilities to ensure employees have the appropriate equipment required for their job duties..
- Ensure employees properly use required PPE, follow established safety procedures and adhere to GMPs.
- Conduct routine GMP and housekeeping inspections and work with department supervisors to address deficiencies and implement corrective actions.
- Prepare and submit permits, reports, and regulatory communications
- Partner with the Food Safety & Quality (FSQ) team to integrate sanitation and food safety protocols into EHS programs to support GMP compliance and maintain a safe manufacturing environment.
Training & Emergency Preparedness
- Partner with EHS manager to develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees, supervisors, and contractors on safety policies, emergency response, hazard communication, PPE and GMP awareness, food safety, and compliance.
- Maintain emergency response plans and coordinate emergency drills, incorporating lessons learned.
- Ensure accurate records of training, audits, and corrective actions within EHS systems.
- Train employees on the safe handling, storage, and disposal of workplace chemicals in accordance with OSHA requirements.
Environmental Compliance, Sanitation & Sustainability
- Monitor and enforce compliance with environmental regulations for air quality, hazardous waste disposal, sanitation, chemical handling and sustainability.
- Partner with Plant Management to develop waste reduction and recycling programs, ensuring proper storage and disposal of sanitation and food production chemicals.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with EPA regulations and environmental permitting requirements using EHS systems.
- Assess ergonomic risks related to food processing tasks such as repetitive motion, lifting, and prolonged standing and recommend improvements.
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, or a related field preferred.
· 3+ years of experience in EHS coordination, preferably in a food manufacturing or industrial environment.
· Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, GMPs.
· Preferred certifications: OSHA 10, OSHA 30, Forklift Trainer, Lockout/Tagout Trainer, and general safety certifications.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHS management systems.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Strong understanding of EHS regulations and experience working in a food manufacturing environment with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
· An ability to support a proactive safety culture through data-driven decision-making.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHS management systems.
· Effective communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
· Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
· Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally as part of routine tasks.
· Ability to work in manufacturing environments with varying temperatures, including cold storage.
· Must consistently wear appropriate PPE (e.g., gloves, hairnets, safety glasses) per food safety and workplace regulations.
· Must be able to travel between company manufacturing facilities as needed to support operations, training, inspections, and compliance activities.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $68,000.00 per year
