WAYNE COUNTY JOB DESCRIPTION for
SERVICES ON AGING DEPARTMENT
GENERAL WORK FUNCTIONS
Under the direction of the Services on Aging Director and in collaboration with the In Home
Services Program RN Supervisor provides the duties and activities of a Registered Nurse as
required by the NC Division of Health Services Regulations and NC Department of Aging and
Adult Services for the delivery of Level II and Level III In Home Services.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The RN Supervisor provides oversight to Certified Nursing Assistants who provide personal
care/hands on care to aging individuals in their homes. The RN supervisor will be available to
give technical advice and expertise in the In Home Service program which requires nursing
supervision.
The RN Supervisor will provide supervision of Certified Nursing Assistants (C.N.A) and
documentation of appropriate competency for personal care and home management tasks.
Provides in-service training for Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA's) on a scheduled
calendar.
Completes Competency certification for CNA's who provide hands on care.
Follow up supervisory visit/ phone call to each client’s place of residence at least every
three months.
Annual supervisory visit while the C.N.A provider is present in the client’s home and
may perform quarterly review simultaneously.
Maintains accurate documentation of visit and provides appropriate follow up to any
required corrective action.
Supervises in collaboration with the IHA Program Supervisor all program staff relevant
to daily operations of the program.
Assessment/reassessment of all clients receiving personal care as required by policy.
(Makes home visits/phone calls quarterly, annually, or as needed for follow up.)
Develops plan of care for participants as to their needs.
Assesses/reassesses plan of care of aging individual as needed.
Maintains and evaluates work skills and job performance of staff by means of home
visits, phone consultations, review of records, staff conferences, in-services, and annual
performance evaluations.
Ensures that requirements are met under nursing for licensure of program.
Interviews applicants for employment, recommends hiring, promotion, and disciplinary
measures.
Attends Care Plan meetings at least quarterly.
Performs file audits.
Provides appropriate referrals to clients and families as needed.
Assists with waiting list updates.
Overview of employee time and travel sheets.
