Manufacturing Staff Accountant

Growing Ferndale manufacturer is hiring a Staff Accountant to run day-to-day accounting and grow into inventory, ERP, and manufacturing accounting. You'll report directly to the CFO on a temp-to-perm path built as a long-term hire from day one. Strong accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and month-end close experience, plus comfort inside an ERP system, is what sets top candidates apart.
About the Role
This is more than a traditional AP/AR seat. The company is moving off an older QuickBooks setup and onto PLEX, the ERP system that will become the single source of truth for finance, purchasing, production, and inventory. You'll sit at the center of both day-to-day accounting and the operational processes that connect finance to the shop floor, working alongside the outgoing accounting lead through an unhurried, well-supported knowledge transfer.
What You'll Do
- Accounts payable and accounts receivable (AP/AR)
- General ledger, journal entries, and account reconciliations
- Month-end close support
- Payroll support
- Inventory accounting support, inventory reconciliations, and cycle counts
- Cost accounting and work-in-process (WIP) exposure
- Keeping ERP transactions accurate across finance, purchasing, production, and inventory
- Flagging and driving process improvements as the company standardizes on PLEX
What You Bring (Must-Haves)
- Solid, hands-on accounting fundamentals: AP/AR, GL, reconciliations, and month-end close
- Comfort working inside an ERP system's accounting and finance modules (PLEX, SAP, Oracle, or similar); the platform matters less than the experience
- Working proficiency in QuickBooks for the interim period before the PLEX migration is complete
- Able to work on-site in Ferndale, MI, Monday through Friday
Nice to Have
- Accounting experience in manufacturing, distribution, inventory, or purchasing
- Inventory accounting, cost accounting, or WIP experience
- Direct PLEX experience (a bonus, not a requirement)
A CPA is not required or expected. This is a hands-on operational accounting role, and we welcome candidates who want depth and breadth in manufacturing finance rather than a CPA-track path. You'll do well here if you take ownership of outcomes, sweat the details in a high-trust financial role, and always look for a cleaner process.

Schedule, Pay & Benefits
- Full-time, on-site, Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
- $32 to $38 per hour during the temp period, based on experience, with the top of the range for candidates who bring direct ERP accounting-module experience
- No remote or hybrid option, before or after conversion (set clearly up front)
- Temp-to-perm with full benefits eligibility once you convert to permanent
