Description:
Fundamental Objective: The Groundskeeper was established for the purpose(s) of performing, under general supervision, grounds keeping and gardening functions in a residential area; performing semiskilled maintenance and repair work; ensuring that gardening assignments are completed in a safe, proper, and timely manner.
Essential Functions: Groundskeeper work includes, but is not limited to the following:
A. Responsible for daily upkeep of the property and grounds which includes cleaning and removing of trash.
B. Responsible for reporting unusual or extraordinary circumstances regarding the property and/or residents.
C. Performs groundskeeping duties (e.g., planting, mowing, cultivating, pruning, shaping, trimming, watering, spraying, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe and attractive manner, and protecting against erosion.
D. Evaluates landscaped areas, equipment, sprinkler systems and grounds for the purpose of identifying repairs and/or replacement needs.
E. Cleans landscaped areas and related items (e.g., drains, litter, etc.) for the purpose of preventing flooding and removing hazards.
F. Applies pesticides and herbicides to grounds and garden areas for the purpose of controlling weeds and pests
G. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
H. Installs irrigation systems and/or components (e.g., lines, valves, sprinklers, time clocks, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring ta systems are in proper working conditions
I. Repairs irrigation systems and/or components for the purpose of ensuring that systems are in proper working condition.
J. Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.
K. Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
L. Transports various items (e.g., tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.
M. May assist in various maintenance activities as required.
Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
At least 2 or more years of verifiable work experience in a groundskeeper, gardener, landscaper, greenskeeper position.
Minimum Qualifications:
A. Valid California driver’s license and motor vehicle record acceptable according to Company auto insurance carrier’s guidelines.
B. Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing and the ability to communicate information in English so others will understand.
C. Ability to learn and understand job requirements and work under general supervision after initial training.
D. Ability to develop specific goals and plans in order to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
E. Ability to efficiently communicate with business partners, supervisors/managers, peers, or subordinates in verbal or written form.
F. Ability to work overtime as needed with approval.
Physical Demands & Environmental Conditions:
A. Work is generally active in nature and may require constant standing and walking for up to 80% of the time. The working environment in the office is generally favorable but will frequently work in the maintenance shop which may include exposure to dirty, and dusty conditions with exposure to temperature extremes, chemicals and airborne particles or fumes or work near moving machinery with exposure to potentially loud noise.
B. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials.
C. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger motion to handle, feel, grip or operate objects, or hand tools; occasionally will climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; and use foot control movement to operate vehicles.
D. The employee will occasionally maneuver body into tight spaces using special body postures in the performance of their work.
E. Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
F. Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; including those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
G. Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
H. Repetitive motions: making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
I. Vision: The ability to see details at a distance and to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
J. Olfactory sense: The ability to detect odors that affect work related situations, such as fumes, fumigation, and other dangerous odors.
