Job Summary
Superior Skilled Trades is seeking an experienced Welding Inspector with PT level II experience for a large-scale industrial construction project in Fremont, CA. This role is responsible for performing quality inspections on welded mechanical systems to ensure compliance with project specifications, AWS standards, applicable codes, and client quality requirements. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in mechanical construction, welding inspections, and quality assurance within industrial or manufacturing environments.
Responsibilities
- Perform quality inspections of welded mechanical piping, structural steel, and fabricated assemblies throughout all phases of construction.
- Verify welding activities comply with project specifications, approved WPS/PQRs, AWS standards, and applicable codes.
- Inspect fit-up, joint preparation, welding processes, and completed welds for quality and code compliance.
- Perform and document visual weld inspections.
- Conduct or witness Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) examinations in accordance with project procedures.
- Review welder qualifications, welding procedures, material traceability, and inspection records.
- Coordinate with contractors, field supervision, engineering, and quality teams to resolve quality issues.
- Generate inspection reports, deficiency logs, and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) when required.
- Verify corrective actions and re-inspect repaired welds.
- Support hydrostatic testing, pressure testing, turnover documentation, and mechanical completion activities.
- Maintain accurate QA/QC documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Promote compliance with OSHA regulations and project safety requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required.
- Active Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) Level II certification with Method C (Solvent Removable) endorsement required.
- Minimum 5 years of welding inspection experience on industrial, manufacturing, commercial, or heavy mechanical construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of:
- AWS D1.1
- ASME Section IX
- Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
- Procedure Qualification Records (PQR)
- Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ)
- Experience inspecting carbon steel, stainless steel, and mechanical piping systems.
- Ability to interpret:
- Isometric drawings
- P&IDs
- Fabrication drawings
- Mechanical specifications
- Experience documenting inspections and maintaining QA/QC records.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and digital inspection reporting tools.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
