Position Summary
The Asset Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day movement of company-owned vehicles and drivers. This position serves as the central point of communication between customers, drivers, and internal departments to ensure freight is picked up and delivered safely, on time, and with exceptional service.
The ideal candidate is calm under pressure, excels at multitasking, enjoys solving problems, and understands the importance of communication in a fast-moving transportation environment.
Responsibilities
- Dispatch company-owned assets, including cargo vans, sprinter vans, straight trucks, and tractor-trailers.
- Monitor shipments from pickup through delivery while ensuring on-time performance.
- Communicate continuously with drivers regarding load information, route updates, delays, and customer requirements.
- Respond quickly to service disruptions and develop effective solutions while keeping customers informed.
- Coordinate with customers regarding pickup and delivery appointments, status updates, and special handling requirements.
- Maximize fleet utilization while balancing service, driver availability, Hours of Service, and equipment capacity.
- Enter and maintain accurate shipment information within the Transportation Management System (TMS).
- Work closely with customer service, sales, maintenance, and leadership to support daily operations.
- Maintain detailed records of dispatch activities and shipment updates.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, FMCSA regulations, and customer requirements.
- Assist with after-hours or weekend coverage as required by operational needs.
QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, or holidays when required.
Preferred
- Previous dispatch, transportation, logistics, or trucking experience.
- Experience using a Transportation Management System (TMS).
- Knowledge of Hours of Service regulations and DOT requirements.
- Experience working in expedited transportation or time-sensitive freight.
