Job Overview
The Commercial Sales Representative is responsible for developing new business opportunities and growing existing customer relationships by providing commercial backup power solutions. This role focuses on selling standby generators, transfer switches, fuel systems, and related power solutions to commercial, industrial, healthcare, municipal, educational, and institutional customers.
The ideal candidate is a relationship-driven sales professional who can identify customer needs, understand critical power requirements, and serve as a trusted advisor throughout the sales process. Success in this position requires strong business development skills, technical aptitude, and the ability to manage multiple projects from initial contact through project completion.
Responsibilities
- Identify, develop, and pursue new commercial sales opportunities through prospecting, networking, referrals, and business development activities.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with facility managers, business owners, contractors, engineers, architects, developers, municipalities, and other key decision-makers.
- Conduct site visits to evaluate customer power requirements, operational risks, and backup power needs.
- Develop customized standby power solutions based on customer objectives, facility requirements, applicable codes, and budget considerations.
- Prepare and present professional proposals, project estimates, and return-on-investment analyses.
- Educate customers on generator systems, automatic transfer switches, fuel systems, remote monitoring, maintenance agreements, and lifecycle ownership.
- Manage the entire sales process from prospecting through contract execution and project handoff.
- Collaborate with engineering, project management, installation, permitting, and service teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Follow up with customers after project completion to ensure satisfaction and identify future opportunities.
- Promote preventive maintenance agreements, monitoring services, and long-term service relationships.
- Maintain accurate sales activities, pipeline management, forecasting, and customer communications within the company's CRM.
- Stay current on industry trends, emergency power technologies, electrical codes, competitor offerings, and market developments.
- Attend networking events, trade shows, industry associations, and company meetings to generate business opportunities.
- Consistently achieve or exceed established sales and revenue goals.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- Proven success in B2B outside sales, preferably within commercial generators, electrical systems, construction, HVAC, industrial equipment, or related industries.
- Strong business development and account management experience.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, and project documents is preferred.
- Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while collaborating with internal teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google and CRM software.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to travel throughout the company's service territory.
