Position Scope:
This position is responsible for the development and implementation of pastoral services, resources, and support initiatives for missionary families and their children (Missionary Kids (MKs) and Third Culture Kids (TCKs)). The role supports the global responsibilities of People Care and Spiritual Formation within assigned areas of responsibility, with a focus on helping fulfill the mission God has entrusted to Communitas.
This position works collaboratively with the People Care and Formation (PCF) Team to cultivate Communitas’ values and mutual expectations, promoting the health and flourishing of individuals, families, and teams. It provides pastoral care and support to Communitas personnel through coaching, mentoring, care, or processing.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conduct field visits with staff families and MKs, when possible, to provide developmental support, pastoral care, and encouragement. When direct visits are not feasible, coordinate with trusted and vetted third-party organizations to provide appropriate care and support.
- Serve as a trusted and approachable resource for staff and families by providing a safe space for processing personal, family, and life-related challenges, while recognizing when additional professional support or referral is needed.
- Provide opportunities for learning regarding TCKs within Communitas.
- Collaborate with the People Care and Formation (PCF) Team in developing systems, resources, and policies that promote the holistic well-being of staff, with a particular focus on missionary families and MKs.
- Participate annually in at least one regional Connect event and/or Leadership Summit.
- Maintain regular communication with the Co-Director of PCF through monthly check-ins.
Family Pastor System Development Responsibilities:
- Research current best practices and strategies related to MK and TCK care.
- Seek input and feedback from Communitas staff and MKs to identify and understand the unique needs of missionary families and children within the Communitas community.
- Provide vision and strategic planning for MK care within Communitas.
- Recruit advisors, caregivers, and ministry partners who can contribute to the ongoing care and support of Communitas families and MKs.
- Advocate for developing healthy self-care systems for MKs and missionary families.
- Develop sustainable processes and systems that promote ongoing awareness, engagement, and care for MKs while empowering families to build and utilize their own support networks.
- Partner with Communitas event planning teams to help ensure MK needs are considered in event schedule locations. Recruit and coordinate with short-term teams and/or specialists serving Communitas children and youth.
- Serve as an active member of the Communitas Safety Team.

Qualifications and Experience needed:
- A personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, demonstrated through active involvement in a local church.
- Commitment to the mission, values, and statement of faith of Communitas.
- Proven leadership, team development, and management experience, preferably in a mission or cross-cultural setting.
- Ability to think strategically, develop plans, and follow through with clear goals and outcomes.
- Experience or training in member care philosophy, strategies, and best practices is preferred.
- Commitment to lifelong learning, personal growth, and the development of others.
- Strong understanding of healthy marriages, families, and the unique needs of Third Culture Kids (TCKs) and missionary families.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable using technology, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Zoom, and online databases.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrates maturity, integrity, and the ability to build trust with leadership, staff, and families.
- Able to handle confidential information with wisdom and discretion.
- Ability to establish trust and provide a safe, supportive environment for missionaries and families.
Funding:
This position is funded through personal ministry partnership development (support raising), which covers both salary and ministry-related expenses. Individuals who are self-employed or serving in a bi-vocational capacity are encouraged to apply. Communitas provides onboarding, training, coaching, and ongoing support to help team members build and sustain a healthy ministry partnership team.
