Job Summary
The Patient Access & Medical Assistant provides both front-office and clinical support to ensure a seamless, safe, and efficient patient experience throughout the continuum of care. This position is responsible for patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, telephone support, and revenue cycle-related front office functions, while also assisting providers with direct patient care, clinical procedures, documentation, and care coordination. Responsibilities may vary based on demonstrated competency, certification, training, provider assignment, clinic needs, and business requirements.
Essential Responsibilities
Patient Access
- Welcome and register patients while providing exceptional customer service.
- Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments.
- Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, referrals, and authorizations.
- Collect co-payments and update demographic and insurance information.
- Answer multi-line telephone calls and route messages appropriately.
- Manage provider schedules and assist with appointment optimization.
- Utilize NextGen, Phreesia, and other electronic systems for patient registration and scheduling.
- Resolve front office concerns while maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Coordinate communication with patients regarding appointments and follow-up needs.
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures by obtaining vital signs, documenting medical histories, and updating the electronic health record.
- Assist providers during examinations, treatments, diagnostic testing, and specialty procedures.
- Administer medications, injections, immunizations, and treatments within California law and organizational policy.
- Perform diagnostic testing and specialty clinical procedures within scope of training.
- Educate patients regarding medications, testing, treatment plans, and physician instructions.
- Coordinate referrals, authorizations, and follow-up care.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation.
- Prepare and stock examination rooms, supplies, and equipment.
- Monitor inventory and assist with ordering clinical supplies.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Experience with insurance verification, referrals, and prior authorizations.
- Minimum one year of experience in a medical office or healthcare setting.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.

Preferred
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Medical Assistant Diploma.
- Knowledge of cardiovascular terminology and procedures.
- Bilingual.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to use a computer, keyboard, and telephone throughout the workday.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume clinical environment.
- Occasional local travel may be required.

Pay: $25.00 - $26.00 per hour
