Job Overview
We are looking for a responsible and reliable school bus driver to transport students to and from school following a scheduled route and ensuring their safety. The school bus driver's responsibilities include ensuring proper vehicle maintenance, observing safety and traffic rules, maintain accurate records of passenger counts, maintaining order among students while they are on the bus, and assisting in classrooms while not preforming bus duties.
To be successful as a school bus driver you should enjoy working with children and strictly observe passenger transport regulations. Ultimately, a top-notch school bus driver should be meticulous when it comes to vehicle inspections and regard passenger safety as the highest priority.
Duties
- Safely operate a bus to transport passengers to designated locations.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
- Educate passengers on safety protocols and ensure they are followed during transit.
- Provide assistance to passengers as needed, including those with disabilities or special needs.
- Manage passenger behavior effectively to maintain a safe and respectful environment.
- Maintain accurate records of routes, passenger counts, and incidents.
- Communicate effectively with team members regarding schedules and any issues that arise.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations while driving.
- Being attentive to traffic and weather conditions and ensuring passenger safety.
- Following the planned route and schedule for departure times and stops.
- Regularly checking vehicle safety such as tires, brakes, turn signals, mechanical equipment, etc.
- Monitoring and reporting fuel consumption, mileage, and passenger numbers.
- Reporting delays, accidents, and emergencies.
- Responding to emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Inspect the vehicle thoroughly before and after each trip.
- Assisting with the loading and unloading of the bus when required.
- Enforcing conduct and safety rules on the bus.
- Maintaining a clean vehicle.
Qualifications
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for bus driving.
- Experience in commercial driving, particularly in bus or van operations.
- Clean driving record.
- Knowledge of childcare practices for transporting children.
- Mechanical knowledge for basic vehicle maintenance is advantageous.
- Strong behavior management skills to handle various passenger dynamics effectively.
- A commitment to safety, punctuality, and professionalism at all times.
- Working knowledge of first aid procedures.(CPR and First Aid training is provided)
- Excellent communication skills.
