Position: Veterinary Technician / Assistant – Surgical Support

Role Overview
The Veterinary Technician / Assistant provides direct patient care and surgical support under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian. This role requires a strong foundation in veterinary medicine, surgical preparation, and post-operative care, with the ability to assist in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Key Responsibilities
- Surgical Support: Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures by preparing the surgical area, sterilizing instruments, setting patient up, monitoring, and maintaining a sterile field during procedures. Troubleshoot anesthetic status.
- Post-Operative Care: Monitor vital signs, manage recovery, and provide initial post-surgical instructions to clients and provide initial post surgical vitals to the DVM.
- Instrument & Equipment Maintenance: Clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment to meet safety standards.
- Laboratory Support: Perform and document basic lab tests (e.g., urinalysis, blood tests) to aid in diagnosis and treatment.
- Client Communication: Provide clear, compassionate communication to clients, including pre- and post-operative care instructions to pet owners.
- General Duties: Assist with examinations, vaccinations, deworming, and routine patient care.
- Team Collaboration: Work effectively with veterinarians, technicians, and support staff, and managers to ensure smooth clinic operations.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Prior veterinary clinic or animal hospital experience, with surgical support experience required.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in surgical procedures and post-operative care.
- Strong knowledge of veterinary medicine, anatomy, and pharmacology.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client and team interaction.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
- Proficiency in veterinary software and electronic medical records.
- Physical stamina and dexterity for surgical and laboratory tasks.
- Soft Skills: Compassion, attention to detail, problem-solving, and teamwork.
