Tulsi is an upscale Indian restaurant and event space opening in Elgin, Illinois. The concept blends traditional Indian flavors with a modern dining experience. The restaurant will feature a full-service dining room, bar, and a large event space for private parties, weddings, and corporate events. We are seeking an experienced and passionate Head Chef to lead the kitchen and help establish Tulsi as a standout dining destination in the Chicago suburbs.
Position Overview
The Head Chef will oversee all kitchen operations including menu execution, staff management, food quality, and kitchen systems. This role requires strong leadership, deep culinary knowledge of Indian cuisine, and the ability to run a high-volume kitchen that serves both restaurant guests and private events.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all kitchen operations
- Maintain consistent food quality and presentation
- Train and supervise kitchen staff
- Manage kitchen workflow and service during high-volume periods
- Oversee food ordering, inventory, and cost control
- Maintain health, safety, and sanitation standards
- Collaborate with ownership on menu development and seasonal updates
- Execute restaurant service and large event/banquet production
- Maintain kitchen organization, efficiency, and professionalism
- Lead the creation and execution of an innovative Indian fusion menu, combining authentic Indian flavors with modern global culinary techniques
- Design seasonal menus and signature dishes, ensuring creativity, consistency, and profitability through thoughtful plating and presentation
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a Head Chef, Executive Chef, or Sous Chef in a full-service restaurant
- Strong knowledge of Indian cuisine and cooking techniques
- Experience managing kitchen teams and high-volume service
- Ability to execute both à la carte service and large event catering
- Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills
- Knowledge of food cost control and inventory management
Preferred Experience
- Experience with tandoor cooking and traditional Indian kitchen operations
- Experience with banquet or large-scale event service
- Experience opening or launching a new restaurant is a plus

Pay: $85,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
