Knowledge Engineer – Clinical Intelligence / Knowledge Engineering / Contractor / Remote US
The Knowledge Engineer is responsible for expressing medical specifications as data queries using software language designed to be accessible to non-technical individuals. These queries are employed by healthcare systems around the world to support healthcare providers in making the best clinical decisions possible and to measure the quality of healthcare they provide. This role will include researching and writing simplified healthcare code, researching healthcare data models, designing test plans to ensure data accuracy, building data models that exercise the test plan, and iteratively employing feedback from the results to correct the code.
Primary Responsibilities
The Knowledge Engineer will work directly with a commercial client of PGT on a contract basis. This is a full-time, remote, W2 opportunity. The primary responsibilities of the Knowledge Engineer are:
· Write simplified healthcare code to represent healthcare specifications (eCQMs and CDS-Hooks)
· Research innovative healthcare data models (FHIR), healthcare logic expressions (CQL) and healthcare definitional models (FHIR) to correctly express healthcare specifications.
· Design test plans that ensure the code generates the correct data (expressed FHIR).
· Generate sample data to exercise the defined test plan and/or criteria (FHIR).
· Document, maintain and publish results in FHIR Implementation Guides to enable uptake and implementation by healthcare institutions.
· Collaborate cross-functionally with healthcare specialists, clinicians, and terminologists to understand and implement the requirements (L1/L2), and test the implementation (L3).
· Providing expert feedback on prior authorization policies, including analysis for complexity, scope and effort.
· Identify and capture best practices and lessons learned.
· Accountable for ensuring that all working hours are accurately reported in Time Tracking System on a daily or weekly basis, that the majority of (if not all) hours are tracked as billable and that the project management tool in the time tracking system is properly and fully utilized.
· Tracking and reporting of billable hours is a critical aspect of project management and delivery to our customers and this is a major area of accountability.
· Comply with privacy, security, and confidentiality policies.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, data analytics, and informatics, or related field of study or comparable related work experience.
· 5+ years of experience as a clinical informaticist, data scientist, software developer or another relevant role.
· Healthcare technology experience is required.
· Experience with Clinical Quality measures is highly preferred.
· Experience with FHIR is highly preferred.
· Experience with Clinical Decision Support algorithms is preferred.
· Experience in programming and/or programming tools is preferred but not required.
· Prior Authorization Adjudication Algorithms experience is beneficial.
· Experience with query language(s), such as SQL, would be considered an asset.
· Excellent computer literacy skills and abilities.
· Strong collaborative and verbal and written communication skills.
· Proven creative problem-solving and critical thinking with strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
· High level of self-motivation, drive, and enthusiasm coupled with integrity and professionalism.
