The Grant County Sheriff’s Office located in Carson, North Dakota is looking for applicants for the full-time position of Patrol Deputy. Grant County is a rural county in South-Central North Dakota largely focused on farming with a low population and a low call-volume allowing deputies time and opportunities to engage with the community. At full staff, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office consists of 5 sworn employees and our administrative assistant. The Sheriff’s Office is an excellent place for somebody looking to get started in the profession of law enforcement as well for those looking to get away from the hustle of a larger area, as we are a county with a population of around 2,300 and an area of 1,666 square miles.
Grant County is an excellent area for those who enjoy deer and pheasant hunting and is home to Lake Tschida/Heart Butte Dam which offers camping, fishing, and boating fun for the whole family. Community events are prominent in our cities of Carson, Elgin, and New Leipzig throughout the summer and fall months. We are also only about an hour away from Bismarck and Dickinson (respectively) along with being a little over 3 hours from Sturgis, SD and the Black Hills.
Benefits and Salary:
· The Grant County Sheriff’s Office offers a fully paid single health insurance policy or a partial family health insurance policy;
· Salary will start at $49,000 DOE when NDPOST Licensed;
· Deputies are also enrolled in the North Dakota Public Employee Retirement System (NDPERS) Public Safety Retirement Plan;
· Vacation and Compensated Time Available.
Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:
· An applicant of 21 years of age or older is preferred and a high school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
· All applicants must possess a ND POST License or be licensable.
· Upon conditional job offer, applicants will have to complete a physical exam, psychological exam, fingerprints, and background check.
· All applicants must have a valid ND Driver’s License.
· All applicants must be able to sit for potentially extended periods of time along with being physically fit.
· All applicants must be able to possess a firearm and qualify on their sidearm regularly.
· Applicants will have to be outside in 100-degree weather and below 0-degree weather throughout the year.
· Applicants will go from moments of very little physical activity to high levels of physical activity in a moment’s notice.
· Must be willing to work a rotating schedule of days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
· Applicants must have no felony, domestic assault, or any other criminal convictions barring them from possessing a firearm.
· Applicants will need to be able to relocate to Grant County;
· Applicants must pass a background check
· Other criminal convictions may be considered by the North Dakota POST Board on a case-by-case basis.

Grant County Deputies are encouraged to find different areas of law enforcement that interests them. If a deputy is drawn to a specific aspect of law enforcement work, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office will consider making accommodations for specialized training as best as possible for the department.
