Position Summary
The Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing the company’s fleet of service vehicles and equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations. This role manages vehicle procurement, maintenance, compliance, and utilization for both residential and commercial plumbing service operations.
The Fleet Manager works closely with operations, dispatch, safety, and branch managers to ensure technicians have reliable vehicles and equipment to perform their work.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Operations
- Manage the company’s fleet of service vans, trucks, trailers, and equipment.
- Ensure vehicles are properly assigned, utilized, and maintained across all branches.
- Track vehicle performance, fuel usage, mileage, and downtime.
- Coordinate vehicle replacements, disposals, and new purchases.
Fleet managers oversee vehicle lifecycle management including acquisition, maintenance scheduling, and utilization tracking to maintain efficient operations.
Maintenance & Repairs
- Implement and manage preventative maintenance schedules.
- Coordinate repairs with internal mechanics and external vendors.
- Monitor service records, inspections, and warranty work.
- Ensure minimal downtime for technician vehicles.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with all vehicle-related regulations:
- DOT requirements (if applicable)
- California vehicle registration and licensing
- Insurance requirements
- Safety inspections
- Support driver safety programs and accident investigations.
Fleet Procurement & Vendor Management
- Research and purchase service vehicles and upfit equipment.
- Manage relationships with:
- Dealerships
- Fleet service providers
- Maintenance vendors
- Fuel card providers
- GPS / telematics vendors.
Fleet managers also negotiate vehicle purchases and determine whether vehicles should be bought, leased, or retired.
Technology & Tracking
- Manage telematics and GPS systems.
- Track technician driving behavior, idle time, and fuel efficiency.
- Maintain fleet management software and vehicle records.
Budget & Cost Control
- Develop annual fleet budget.
- Monitor costs for:
- fuel
- maintenance
- repairs
- insurance
- vehicle replacement.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities.
Cross-Department Support
- Partner with dispatch to ensure proper vehicle allocation.
- Support operations managers with technician vehicle needs.
- Assist HR with driver documentation and licensing.
Qualifications
Required
- 5+ years fleet management or vehicle operations experience
- Experience managing commercial vehicle fleets
- Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance programs
- Experience with fleet software / telematics systems
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
Preferred
- Experience with service fleets (HVAC, plumbing, construction)
- Experience managing 50+ vehicles
- Knowledge of DOT / California fleet compliance
- Mechanical or automotive background

Compensation and Benefits
· Salary Range: $105,000 – $140,000
· Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, group life insurance, and long-term disability coverage.
· Retirement: 401(k) plan with a 50% company match on contributions up to 4%

Compliance Requirements
- Must be willing to submit to a background check and drug test prior to employment
- Must be willing to submit to an MVR report – No DUIs or more than 2 points on a driving record is our baseline standard
