Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Personal Care Assistant (PCA) to provide essential support and care to individuals in various settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and home health environments. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for clients through attentive personal care, patient observation, and assistance with daily activities. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those with diverse needs, including seniors, individuals with disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders, and memory impairments such as dementia or Alzheimer's disease. The PCA will work closely with healthcare teams to ensure safety, comfort, and dignity for all clients.
Duties
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting, ensuring respectful and personalized care.
- Monitor patients' vital signs and observe for any changes in health status, reporting findings accurately to healthcare professionals.
- Support medication administration following prescribed protocols while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality.
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs and assist with meal consumption as necessary.
- Employ proper manual handling techniques and utilize equipment such as Hoyer lifts for safe patient transfers and mobility support.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping tasks including cleaning common areas and client spaces.
- Provide transportation assistance for medical appointments or community outings using appropriate safety measures.
- Document care activities diligently within care plans and communicate effectively with clients, families, and team members to coordinate support efforts.
- Engage in specialized care practices such as dementia care, Alzheimer's support, memory care, hospice care, or working with individuals with autism or developmental disabilities when required.
Experience
- Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health settings is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to perform patient observation and monitoring in compliance with healthcare standards.
- Knowledge of infection control practices including HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality protocols.
- Experience assisting with medication administration and vital signs measurement is preferred.
- Familiarity with specialized care techniques such as Hoyer lifts, patient transfer methods, CPR certification, first aid training, and heavy lifting procedures.
- Background supporting individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders or intellectual disabilities supports a versatile skill set for this role.
- Previous caregiving experience involving geriatrics or social work enhances the ability to provide comprehensive client-centered support.
