Position Summary
The Shipping Scheduler is responsible for coordinating and scheduling outbound shipments to ensure timely delivery of customer orders while maximizing transportation efficiency and supporting production schedules. This role works closely with Production, Planning, Warehouse, Customer Service, and Logistics providers to ensure products are shipped accurately, on time, and in compliance with customer requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Schedule and coordinate daily outbound shipments based on customer requirements, production completion dates, and carrier availability.
- Work closely with Production Planning, Warehouse, and Customer Service teams to prioritize shipments and resolve scheduling conflicts.
- Communicate with carriers, freight brokers, and transportation providers to arrange pickups and deliveries.
- Monitor shipment status and proactively address delays, shortages, or transportation issues.
- Generate and maintain shipping schedules, freight documentation, bills of lading, and other required shipping records.
- Ensure customer-specific shipping requirements and routing instructions are followed.
- Coordinate expedited shipments when necessary to meet customer demands.
- Review open orders and inventory availability to support shipping commitments.
- Maintain accurate records of shipment activity within ERP and shipping systems.
- Track freight costs and assist in identifying opportunities for transportation savings and process improvements.
- Collaborate with Customer Service regarding order status, delivery commitments, and shipment updates.
- Assist with inventory and warehouse coordination activities as needed.
- Support month-end reporting and logistics performance metrics.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and applicable transportation regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in shipping, logistics, transportation scheduling, production planning, or supply chain operations preferred.
- Manufacturing environment experience strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to analyze schedules and identify potential shipping constraints.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience with ERP systems and shipping software preferred.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Basic understanding of transportation methods, freight classifications, and logistics processes.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in both office and warehouse/manufacturing environments as needed.
Working Conditions
- Manufacturing and warehouse environment with moderate noise levels.
- Standard office environment with frequent interaction between departments.
- Occasional overtime may be required to meet shipping deadlines and customer requirements.
