Key Responsibilities
- Formulation Innovation: Design, formulate, and optimize liquid, paste, and suspension fill matrices for vitamins, botanical extracts, minerals, and functional lipids.
- Shell Engineering: Develop standard gelatin ribbons and innovative plant-based/vegan shell alternatives (e.g., starch, carrageenan) optimized for specific fills.
- Stability & Compatibility Testing: Execute rigorous cross-migration, water activity, and physical stability studies to prevent softgel leaking, cross-linking, or shell hardening.
- Scale-Up & Tech Transfer: Partner closely with manufacturing teams to successfully transition laboratory-scale batches to commercial rotary die encapsulation equipment.
- Compliance & Documentation: Generate master manufacturing records (MMRs) and ensure all formulation protocols strictly comply with FDA 21 CFR Part 111 (cGMP for Dietary Supplements).
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve manufacturing variances, oxidation issues in volatile oils, suspension settling, and natural flavor-masking challenges.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Food Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related scientific discipline.
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on formulation experience in an R&D laboratory, with at least 2 years explicitly dedicated to softgel technology.
- Technical Mastery: Direct experience with benchtop encapsulation equipment, rheometers, texture analyzers (for shell burst strength), and automated dissolution testing.
- Nutraceutical Savvy: Strong understanding of active nutritional ingredients, raw material variability, and natural preservation techniques.
- Communication: Excellent analytical, documentation, and interpersonal skills to collaborate across R&D, Quality Assurance, and Operations.
