Medical Laboratory Scientist — Part-Time
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, flexible hours
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Position Summary
We are currently seeking a Part-Time Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team. The schedule is Monday through Thursday with flexible hours.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency-testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
- Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures.
- Review and release test results.
- Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety guidelines as described in their respective regulations and guidelines.
- Adhere to the laboratory's quality-control policies and document all quality-control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
- Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
- Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or the reporting of test results, correct problems when possible, or immediately notify the Laboratory Director.
- Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
- Maintain complete records of all testing performed on-site.
- Maintain the general appearance and cleanliness of the laboratory.
- Ensure that reagents and test kits are properly dated with received dates, expiration dates, and, when applicable, opened dates.
- Review and receive training on new procedures.
- Attend monthly department meetings and any additional training or educational meetings as required.
- Participate in all applicable safety-training sessions. Know the location and contents of the safety manual, as well as the location and proper use of all applicable safety equipment.
- Participate in government or regulatory-agency inspections as needed.
- Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor or Laboratory Director.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent) preferred.
- Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Biology may be considered.
- An Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology may also qualify.
- Candidates who were previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR § 493.1433, published March 14, 1990, may also qualify.
- To be employed, candidates must provide a detailed original transcript.
Work Experience
- 6 months of experience in a high-complexity testing environment is preferred. This experience may have been obtained during the completion of a qualifying degree program.
- Candidates with an Associate's degree must have a minimum of 3 months of clinical laboratory experience in high-complexity testing.
