Position Summary
The Employment Specialist provides Foundational Community Supports (FCS) employment services to individuals with Medicaid-funded supports. This role focuses on helping people with mental health, substance use, or housing challenges prepare for, obtain, and maintain competitive, integrated employment in the community.
Key Responsibilities – Employment Services FocusAssessment & Planning
- Conduct intake, discovery, and employment assessments to identify client strengths, barriers, interests, and support needs
- Develop and update Individual Employment Plans based on client goals and progress
- Identify barriers to employment (transportation, housing, legal, behavioral health) and create action steps to address them
Job Readiness & Skill Development
- Teach and model workplace skills such as attendance, communication, problem-solving, and professionalism
- Assist with résumé building, applications, and interview preparation
- Provide hands-on coaching in real-life settings (mock interviews, community-based practice)
- Support clients in building confidence and independence in job-related tasks
Job Development (Community-Based Work)
- Actively job develop in the community by building relationships with local employers
- Conduct labor market research to identify hiring trends and opportunities
- Match clients to jobs based on their strengths, preferences, and abilities
- Advocate for clients with employers, including explaining support services and accommodations
- Assist with job carving or customizing positions when appropriate
Job Placement & On-the-Job Support
- Support clients during the hiring process, including interview attendance when appropriate
- Provide on-site job coaching to help clients learn tasks, follow directions, and meet expectations
- Break down job duties into step-by-step tasks when needed
- Identify and build natural supports at the workplace (supervisors, coworkers)
- Gradually fade support as the client becomes more independent
Retention & Follow-Along Services
- Monitor job performance and address concerns early
- Provide ongoing support to help clients maintain employment
- Problem-solve workplace challenges (attendance, communication, behavior)
- Maintain communication with employers while respecting client confidentiality
- Support long-term stability and career growth opportunities
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete accurate and timely service notes aligned with FCS requirements
- Ensure documentation reflects services provided, progress made, and billable activities
- Track client outcomes, including job placement and retention
- Maintain compliance with Medicaid and agency standards
Collaboration
- Work closely with behavioral health providers, case managers, housing staff, and other partners
- Attend team meetings and provide updates on client progress
- Coordinate services to ensure a whole-person approach
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required (Associate’s or Bachelor’s preferred)
- Experience in employment services, behavioral health, housing, or workforce programs preferred
- Understanding of barriers related to mental health, substance use, and housing instability
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently in the community and as part of a team
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, documentation systems)
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Pay: $18.50 - $22.00 per hour
