Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Direct Support Professional to provide daily care, supervision, and support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a residential group home setting.
The ideal candidate will help individuals live safely, comfortably, and with dignity, while encouraging independence, personal growth, and an improved quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Support meal preparation, feeding, and proper nutrition.
- Administer or assist with medications as trained and directed.
- Provide companionship, encouragement, and emotional support.
- Assist residents with community outings, recreational activities, appointments, and other activities.
- Maintain a safe, clean, comfortable, and supportive living environment.
- Follow individual care plans and behavior support strategies.
- Accurately document daily activities, progress, services provided, and incidents.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and behavioral situations while following established procedures.
- Promote independence and treat every individual with dignity, respect, and compassion.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred but not required.
- Must have a reliable vehicle and dependable transportation to and from work.
- Valid driver's license required if transportation of residents is part of the position.
- Must be able to pass required background checks.
- Willingness to complete required training and certifications.
- Willingness to obtain CPR, Safety & Prevention certification, and a Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Ability to effectively communicate, understand, read, and write in English.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Compassionate, patient, dependable, and respectful.
- Organized, responsible, and able to work efficiently.
- Ability to follow individual care plans, agency policies, and established procedures.
- Ability to relate to individuals in a warm, caring, and respectful manner.
- Comfortable working with a diverse range of individuals and needs.
- Ability to perform personal care and housekeeping duties.
- Ability to work independently as well as effectively as part of a team.
Work Environment
- Residential group home setting.
- Primarily an evening shift: Monday–Friday, 3:00 PM–11:00 PM.
- May include weekends, overnight shifts, or double shifts when needed.
- Physically active position that may require standing, lifting, bending, and assisting residents with daily activities.
