About Beth Ward Studios
Beth Ward Studios is a fast-paced, innovative New York-based jewelry and accessories company that partners with leading retailers and global brands to bring trend-driven products from concept to market.
BWS is entering an important period of finance, systems and technology transformation. We are implementing Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, strengthening our financial processes and preparing to develop a broader AI strategy focused on working smarter, moving faster and improving decision-making.
About the Role
Beth Ward Studios is seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant to join our Finance team during this period of transformation.
Reporting to the VP of Finance, Technology & Transformation, this person will take primary ownership of sales-order, customer-invoicing, revenue and accounts-receivable processes. They will also help strengthen the monthly close, stabilize Business Central following go-live and identify opportunities to improve how Finance operates.
This is not a narrowly focused accounting role. We are looking for someone who wants to understand how the business works, builds strong relationships across departments and connects operational activity to financial results.
The successful candidate will be curious, analytical and comfortable asking questions, investigating inconsistencies and pursuing answers. They will embrace technology advancement and help Finance identify practical ways to use AI, automation and improved data to work more effectively.
This job is fully onsite at our offices in the Chelsea/Flatiron District. After the onboarding period of 3-6 months, successful candidates may have the ability to work some days from home.
The annual salary for this job is up to $90,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Own Finance activities related to sales orders, customer invoicing, revenue completeness and accounts receivable.
- Reconcile sales orders, shipments, EDI activity, customer invoices and general-ledger records, investigating billing delays, uninvoiced shipments and reporting discrepancies.
- Support accurate revenue recognition, period-end cut-off and revenue-to-COGS alignment.
- Help execute a timely, accurate and well-supported monthly close, including reconciliations, journal entries, account-support schedules and accrual analysis.
- Perform financial-statement, variance and account analysis, clearly explaining the business drivers behind results.
- Prepare ad hoc reporting and analysis that provides actionable business insights across the organization.
- Operate within Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central following go-live, supporting parallel-system reconciliations and stabilization of new Finance processes.
- Identify system, data, process and training issues; document findings, escalate roadblocks immediately and track issues through resolution.
- Build strong relationships across Sales, Shipping, Product Development, Production and other teams to understand the full order lifecycle and connect operational activity to financial results.
- Cross-train with the Senior Accountant responsible for purchasing, vendor invoices, COGS and inventory, providing mutual backup coverage.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen controls, improve reporting, reduce manual work and use AI, automation and other modern tools to improve Finance workflows.
- Serve as a dependable and forward-thinking partner to the VP of Finance, Technology & Transformation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- Five or more years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, accrual accounting and monthly-close processes.
- Experience with revenue, customer invoicing, accounts receivable and order-to-cash processes.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare reconciliations, supporting schedules, accrual analyses and journal entries.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills.
- Natural curiosity and a desire to understand how the business operates and makes money.
- Ability to build trusted relationships and collaborate effectively across departments.
- Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics is a huge plus, but not necessary if you possess all other qualifications.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Ability to work with urgency, manage competing priorities and communicate issues clearly.
- Openness to new technology, AI and a demonstrated interest in improving how work gets done.
Who Will Succeed in This Role
The right person is intellectually curious, collaborative and highly accountable. They do not simply process transactions or accept reports at face value. They seek to understand what happened, why it happened and whether the accounting accurately reflects the business.
They naturally connect with others across the organization, ask thoughtful questions and build the relationships needed to solve problems effectively. They recognize that Finance cannot operate in isolation.
They work with urgency without sacrificing accuracy, communicate risks early and follow issues through resolution. They are comfortable learning a newly implemented system and creating structure where processes are still evolving.
They are also energized by technology. They embrace AI and automation thoughtfully, look for better ways to work and are willing to help BWS build a more connected, analytical and technology-enabled Finance function.
