Account Manager – Metal Forming
Job Summary
We are seeking an Account Manager to manage customer relationships, identify new opportunities, prepare quotes, and coordinate metal fabrication projects from the initial request through production and delivery.
This position combines outside account management with project estimating. The typical workday will include visiting customer facilities in the morning to discuss current projects, review upcoming needs, and develop new business opportunities. Afternoons will generally be focused on preparing quotes, reviewing drawings, coordinating with internal departments, and following up with customers.
This position is an excellent opportunity for a recent college graduate with a degree in business, marketing, industrial management, or a related field who has experience, internship exposure, or a strong understanding of the metal forming or manufacturing industry.
Responsibilities
- Visit customer facilities regularly to maintain relationships and discuss current and upcoming projects.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned customer accounts.
- Identify new projects, production opportunities, and additional services that may benefit customers.
- Review customer drawings, specifications, bills of material, and purchase requirements.
- Prepare accurate and timely quotes for metal forming and fabrication projects.
- Follow up on submitted quotes and maintain accurate records of pricing activity.
- Monitor customer satisfaction and address issues professionally and promptly.
- Maintain customer account information, visit notes, quote status, and project updates.
- Support the development of new accounts and long-term customer partnerships.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, industrial management, manufacturing, or a related field.
- Recent college graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Experience, internship exposure, education, or working knowledge related to metal forming, sheet metal fabrication, or manufacturing.
- Ability to develop an understanding of manufacturing costs, processes, materials, and production requirements.
- Strong communication, organization, and customer-service skills.
- Ability to manage several quotes and projects at the same time.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and other business software.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly to customer locations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous employment, internship, co-op, or project experience in a metal shop, fabrication facility, or manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, industrial management, manufacturing, or a related field.
- Experience in account management, project management, estimating, sales, or customer service.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, blueprints, specifications, and bills of material.
- Working knowledge of common metal fabrication processes, including:
- Laser cutting, Punching, Press brake forming, Welding, Machining, Powder coating, painting, plating, or other outside processing
- Familiarity with carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other commonly fabricated materials.
- Experience using estimating, ERP, CRM, or manufacturing management software.
- Knowledge of production routing, material utilization, and machine capabilities.
Typical Work Schedule
This is a full-time position. The general daily schedule will include:
- Mornings: Customer visits, project discussions, relationship development, and new opportunity identification.
- Afternoons: Preparing quotes, reviewing drawings, coordinating projects, entering information, and following up with customers.
The schedule may vary depending on customer needs, project deadlines, and travel requirements.
Work Environment
This position will work in a combination of office, manufacturing, and customer-site environments. The employee may occasionally be required to enter active production facilities and must follow all applicable safety requirements.
