The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for decontamination, assembly, inspecting, wrapping, and sterilization of
surgical instruments and medical equipment for Perioperative Services and all ancillary departments which includes working
in conjunction with the Operation Room (OR) staff to provide timely sterile products, trays and case carts where applicable.
The position maintains consistent and continuous workflow between the OR and Central Service Sterile Processing while
practicing excellent customer service. Maintains accurate records of all sterilizing processes.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Cleans and reprocesses surgical instruments and equipment according to policy and standards.
· Inspects and reports malfunctioning or broken equipment and instruments.
· Knows and implements parameters of sterilization requirements to be attained by each type of sterilizer to assure proper
operation.
· Participates in routine cleaning activities (i.e.. sterilizers, surface areas, storage carts, etc.)
· Transports and decontaminates all soiled instrumentation and equipment to a state of cleanliness and disinfection and
disposes of all infectious items according to established procedures
· Maintains customer focus and service responsiveness by answering incoming calls in a timely manner and responding
immediately to emergency requests
· Assures accuracy in the assembly and packaging of all necessary instrumentation, special trays and equipment for
sterilization. Inspects and lubricates all instruments and power equipment according to manufacture recommendations to
insure cleanliness and proper working order
· Performs all steam, sterrad and ethylene oxide sterilization activities insuring cycle and documentation accuracy
· Operates all department equipment according to manufacture recommendations
· Prioritizes work activities to insure all instruments are available as needed for scheduled surgical procedures on a daily
basis
· Follows established policies and procedures in the performance of all work activities in compliance with regulatory agency
requirements
· Demonstrates knowledge and performs all required biological testing and quality checks on a daily basis
maintaining documentation of these activities.

activities of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience and Certifications)
Certification, Licensure: CRCST certification preferred.

sterilization equipment and processes knowledge required.

OSHA TASK CATEGORY I: The normal procedure involves potential exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. Universal
Precautions with patients should be adhered to in the unlikely event of accidental exposure with ready access to first aid.
Protective devices should be worn by the employee when performing tasks that may cause exposure.
