American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift travel contract at a Level 1 Trauma Center in Chandler, AZ, requiring a minimum of 3 years of ICU experience with neuro or CV background.

Acute care hospital setting, Level 1 Trauma Center with Surgical ICU (Trauma/Neuro Surgery) and Medical/Cardiac ICU units

Surgical ICU is a 32-bed unit; Medical/Cardiac ICU is a 36-bed unit with a 12-bed overflow
-
Patient population includes Level 1 trauma (falls, GSW, blunt trauma, MVAs) for patients 15+, post-surgical neuro cases, CVA, post-TPA, sepsis, ARDS, COVID, CVICU cases including CABG, TAVR, IABP, Impella, and ECMO
-
Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2 or 1:1 depending on acuity

RNs are required to titrate drips including propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, ketamine, levophed, vasopressin, heparin, insulin, and others
-
RNs must interpret their own cardiac monitor strips; no monitor techs on unit (GE monitors)

Respiratory therapy is available 24/7; ventilator equipment includes Draeger, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840, V60 BiPAP, and Airvo

Intensivist is in-house 24/7

Charting is done in Cerner

12-hour night shifts; nightshift weekends are Friday–Saturday
-
3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule

Self-scheduling with manager balancing for unit needs

May have 1 holiday off per assignment

Float requirement to telemetry (1:3 or 1:4 ratio) and between all 3 sister ICUs as needed; may also float to a sister facility

No additional on-call or standby shifts required

Scrub color: Navy

Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted

Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required — pending certifications not accepted

Minimum 3 years of recent ICU experience required — no exceptions

Experience must include either neuro or CV ICU care

Must pass the Relias (UNA) Dysrhythmia Exam prior to offer acceptance; maximum of 2 attempts allowed
-
Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as confirmed by driver's license)

Cannot have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered

Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Copy of driver's license required for consideration

RNs will validate skills for trauma, neuro, and specialty devices as needed during orientation

Unit-specific orientation is 1–2 days; a pass/fail Simulation Lab assessment covering sterile technique (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) is conducted on Day 1 of orientation

Charge nurses are present on the unit and do not take patients; no nurse aides on unit (used only as sitters and Health Unit Coordinators)

First-time travelers are welcome to apply, provided they meet the 3-year experience requirement (with at least 2 years in the ICU)

Level 1 Trauma or neuro-specific experience is preferred but not required

Prior experience in a similarly sized ICU is preferred
