We are hiring a dependable and professional Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) Driver to join our growing transportation service in the Greater Sacramento area. This is a part-time position to start, with strong potential for increased hours and long-term growth as the company expands.
This role involves safely transporting clients to and from medical appointments, facilities, and other approved destinations. The driver will be responsible for both ambulatory and wheelchair transportation, including operating wheelchair-accessible ramps and lift equipment. Training will be provided on wheelchair securement, lift/ramp operation, and passenger assistance.
Responsibilities
- Transport clients to scheduled medical appointments on time.
- Assist ambulatory passengers in and out of the vehicle when needed.
- Safely transport wheelchair passengers using proper loading, unloading, and securing procedures.
- Operate wheelchair-accessible ramps and lift equipment correctly.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and comfortable ride for all clients.
- Follow assigned routes and schedules using dispatch instructions.
- Maintain accurate trip logs and basic documentation.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch and report any issues promptly.
- Provide courteous, professional assistance to elderly and disabled passengers.
Requirements
- Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Must pass background check and drug screening.
- Must already meet basic requirements or have prior relevant experience in NEMT, caregiving, medical transport, wheelchair transport, or similar work.
- Must be physically able to assist with wheelchair loading/unloading and passenger support.
- Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor.
- CPR / AED / First Aid certification from an accepted provider such as the American Heart Association or Red Cross, current within the required renewal period.
- Passenger Assistance certification such as PASS (CTAA) or CTS (NEMTAC), current within the required renewal period, or willingness to obtain if applicable.
- Medical fit-for-duty documentation, DOT medical card, or state health exam as required for the role and applicable regulations.
- Clean MVR / DMV history.
- Ability to complete HIPAA awareness training and follow privacy requirements.
- Familiarity with safe wheelchair securement and passenger assistance procedures is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous NEMT, senior care, medical transport, or wheelchair transport experience.
- Experience working with dispatch software or trip documentation.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Comfortable working in a startup environment with evolving responsibilities.
Training
- Training will be provided on wheelchair securement, lift/ramp operation, and passenger assistance.
- HIPAA awareness and compliance training will also be provided as needed.
Compensation
- Competitive hourly pay, based on experience.
