General Description
The purpose of this job is to perform responsible clerical, customer service, and operational work associated with the weighing and processing of vehicles entering and exiting County solid waste, recycling, or public works facilities, as well as operations associated with convenience center facilities. Collects and reconciles fees and provides information and assistance to the public. Maintains accurate records of transactions, operates computerized scale systems, and ensures compliance with County policies and environmental regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

Operates computerized scale systems to accurately weigh incoming and outgoing vehicles.

Responsible for accurate collection, reconciliation, and documentation of checks and electronic payments in accordance with County financial procedures.

Verifies residency and disposal eligibility.

Maintains a high degree of accuracy in recordkeeping (daily logs, records, and reports) and weight transactions and fee collection.

Directs customers to appropriate disposal areas.

Monitors incoming loads for prohibited materials.

Assists with administrative and clerical duties related to facility operations.

Coordinates trailer removal and facility support activities.

Responds to citizen inquiries and complaints while providing courteous, professional, and respectful service to all citizens, vendors, contractors, and visitors.

Exercise authority to refuse entry, deny disposal, or redirect loads that violate County policies, environmental regulations, safety requirements, or facility operating procedures.

Addresses difficult customer situations and de-escalates conflicts.

Maintains confidentiality of records and information in accordance with applicable laws and County policies.

Complies with County safety policies and procedures and immediately reports unsafe conditions, accidents, or prohibited materials.

Must be available to work varying schedules, including weekends, holidays, and shifts up to twelve (12) hours, as operational needs require.

May be assigned to work at other Waste Management facilities or convenience sites to support staffing and operational needs.

Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Experience: One year of customer service, cashiering, administrative support or related experience is required. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Some experience in Microsoft Office applications, data entry systems, electronic recordkeeping systems, and financial transaction software is preferred.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Possession of a valid Virginia Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months of employment.
Physical Demands
Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds with assistance. Performs work that involves frequent sitting and standing.
Work Environment (Unavoidable Hazards)
Work is performed in both office and outdoor environments and may involve exposure to heat, cold, rain, dust, odors, noise, insects, moving vehicles, heavy equipment, and waste materials.
