Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. The College is a dynamic learning organization that serves as a Germanna regional leader and preferred partner where quality learning experiences enable students to participate effectively in the social, economic, political, intellectual, and cultural life of their communities. Germanna Community College is centrally located in Fredericksburg, VA between Washington D.C. and Richmond and between the Blue Ridge mountains and the Chesapeake Bay. Full of history, the area offers a community rich with diversity, the arts, technology, vineyards, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, and many other activities.
The Coordinator of Student Life & Leadership is responsible for creating, implementing, sustaining, and assessing a comprehensive student engagement and leadership development program that advances student success, fosters a culture of belonging, and enhances the overall student experience. Through the intentional application of student development theory, high-impact educational practices, and co-curricular learning, the coordinator designs meaningful opportunities that support students' academic, personal, social, and leadership development.
This position collaborates extensively with colleagues across Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and the surrounding community to cultivate an engaging campus environment where students feel connected, supported, and empowered to achieve their educational and personal goals. The coordinator also serves as a key ambassador for Student Life by promoting programs, communicating student engagement opportunities, and strengthening the visibility and impact of co-curricular experiences throughout the college.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Student Engagement & Student Success
- Develop, implement, and assess innovative student engagement initiatives that foster belonging, leadership development, holistic wellness, and student persistence.
- Utilize student development theory, high-impact educational practices, and current research to design meaningful co-curricular learning experiences that complement students' academic journeys.
- Develop intentional co-curricular learning outcomes and assessment strategies that demonstrate the impact of student engagement on student success.
Create inclusive programs and experiences that encourage students from all backgrounds to become active participants in the college community.
- Foster an environment where every student feels welcomed, valued, connected, and empowered to succeed.
Leadership Development
- Design and facilitate comprehensive leadership development opportunities that strengthen students' leadership competencies, civic responsibility, and personal growth.
- Provide consultative support and guidance to departments seeking to incorporate leadership development and student engagement into their programming.
- Support and advise Student Government Association (SGA), Student Clubs & Organizations, the Inter-Club Council, and other recognized student organizations while promoting student leadership and organizational effectiveness.
- Cultivate opportunities for civic engagement, community service, voter engagement, and experiential learning that prepare students for leadership beyond the classroom.
Campus & Community Partnerships
- Develop collaborative partnerships with faculty, staff, community organizations, nonprofit agencies, and local businesses to expand opportunities for student engagement, service learning, and experiential education.
- Connect students with campus and community resources that support their academic success, personal well-being, career exploration, and leadership development.
Serve as a liaison between Student Life and the broader college community to encourage collaboration and shared responsibility for student success.

Communications & Marketing
- Develop and execute comprehensive communication and marketing strategies that increase awareness of Student Life programs, leadership opportunities, student organizations, and campus events.
- Maintain engaging digital content across the college website, social media platforms, digital signage, newsletters, and other communication channels.
- Regularly communicate the impact, achievements, and activities of Student Life to students, faculty, staff, community partners, and other stakeholders.
- Promote student success stories and highlight opportunities that foster engagement and build institutional pride.
Programs & Events
- Lead the planning, coordination, implementation, and assessment of large-scale campus programs, leadership conferences, welcome activities, cultural celebrations, and community engagement initiatives.
- Ensure programs reflect institutional priorities related to student success, belonging, wellness, inclusion, and leadership development.
Coordinate opportunities for both in-person and virtual engagement that meet the diverse needs of Germanna's students.

Assessment & Continuous Improvement
- Collect, analyze, and interpret participation data, learning outcomes, and student feedback to evaluate program effectiveness and inform continuous improvement.
- Utilize assessment results to recommend innovative approaches that strengthen student engagement and advance institutional priorities.
Remain current on emerging trends, best practices, and research related to student engagement, leadership development, student success, and higher education.

Collaboration
- Partner with colleagues across Academic Affairs and Student Affairs to create integrated learning experiences that support student retention, persistence, and completion.
- Serve on institutional committees and represent Student Life in college-wide initiatives that advance Germanna's strategic priorities.
Support division-wide initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
